About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The contact complained about multiple problems with this vehicle. The 4-wheel drive actuation motor was replaced. The heater core became blocked and was flushed by the dealer. The steering box and pitman arm were replaced. Also, the front wheel bearings were replaced. The headlights became dim. The rear windshield wiper stopped working. The dealer performed numerous repairs, and could not offer an explanation as to why these problems occurred at such low mileage. The vehicle is remained at the dealer awaiting repairs on the rear windshield wiper. Also, replaced loose front hubs.

The heater core in my 1999 Chevrolet Blazer has been replaced five times. The heater core problem causes a significant safety risk. When failing, the heater core clogs and then eventually bursts spilling boiling hot water into the Blazer. The radiator and all of its contents drain into the front interior of the Blazer. The steaming hot water places me and my family in danger of being severely burned. I have been very lucky to date, in that the heater core has not burst with my children in the car. So far, I have been able to get the vehicle to the side of the road and quickly get out of the vehicle before I am burned. Additionally, when the heater core bursts the Blazer fills with steam and the chemicals contained within the radiator. The steam and chemicals make it virtually impossible to see and impairs the driver''s ability to get all passengers and the vehicle out of harms way. I have been very lucky to date in that I have been able to quickly get the Blazer off of the road. I wonder everyday whether the heater core will burst and cause an accident that harms my children, myself or someone else. Due to the significant safety risk of the Blazer I am very uncomfortable driving it and will not drive it long distances. I feel unsafe with my children in the car and I have coached my children on what to do if it bursts and often force them to sit in the back seat. When driving on the freeway I always stay in a lane that allows easy access to the shoulder so I can quickly get off of the road when necessary. The heater core problem poses a significant safety risk to me and my family. If, General Motors refuses to re-purchase my Blazer from me, I will hold General Motors responsible for any and all injuries and accidents caused by the ongoing heater core problem. I believe General Motors to be a responsible company, one that is not willing to put myself or my family at continued risk of being severely burned or involved in a motor vehicle accident.

Cooling system developed a sludge, a 5hr super flush was required costing nearly $400, there is a partial blockage in the heater core and the engine block, there are no guarentees that this will not occur again. Chevrolet would not cover.
