When I first started driving at 15 the gauge finally crapped out-- thanks for that Blazer so my father could blame me. ;) No, but seriously. It's obviously a super common problem...LET'S DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT CHEVY?! It's the biggest pain the behind to have to calculate my mileage EVERY DANG TIME I fill up (WHICH IS ALL THE FREAKING TIME BECAUSE THE MPG SUCKS AS WELL!!!!) Honestly one of the most annoying things about this car. It's quite hilarious when I'm driving with someone who doesn't know all the quirks (crap) of my car, "WOAH! ARE WE GOING TO MAKE IT!? YOUR FUEL LIGHTS ON!" Ha! YOU STILL SUCK, CHEVY! Gah! I'm pretty sure that's the start of something else...now my car doesn't start on the first try...IT TAKES LIKE FIFTY TRIES.

This problem seems to mostly prevail in the 2000 year Blazers as I have owned new '91 and '95 models without any problems. The gas gauge slowly acted-up by moving up and down like it had a bad ground wire. I now do not trust it and reset the tripometer at fill-ups. The gauge sender and fuel pump (located in the gas tank) are together and will only be replaced when the fuel pump dies.

My fuel gauge jumps around below 1/2 tank, I sort of keep track by the odometer, but now I'm sharing with my teenage daughter so it's really annoying. She's run out of gas 2x. My rpm gauge also jumps around at 1500, and you can feel it. But contrary to the other complainers I love my red blazer, It's over 10 years old at about 240,000 km. I had a string of repairs at Christmas 3 years ago, but that's alot cheaper than a car payment. This year I needed a new battery $165. and last year new tires $600. That's great,if you keep track of your gas, it should be recalled for this problem. I'm looking at a 2004 avalanche now.

We replaced our fuel pump because the gas gauge got faulty. We got it inspected at a few local auto shop. I bought the part from checker auto parts and a friend install it for us. It works now, but I think its not 100% accuate.

Noticed fuel gauge acting erratic for well over a year. Just ignored it. Typically when the tank would be close to empty, suddenly and miraculously the gauge would bounce back to full! So we had to learn to not to go too far before refueling. Then one cold day in November, the car wouldn't start. Had to have car towed home. The car would turn over and over and over. At first I thought it was bad spark plugs. So those were replaced. Which is hard as hell given the tight packing of the engine and all the components. Still nothing. Battery would die and I had to go get it recharged. Finally, while trying to start it again, I realized I couldn't hear the whining of the fuel pump. BINGO! Don't even ask how to replace it on your own, cuz I ended up throwing out my back and having my brother in law do fix it for me. But that was it. New fuel pump! Dealership said it would cost $1300! I bought my own pump for $250 and paid my brother in law $20. Heck of a deal

Update from Jan 14, 2010: FueI pump went out again. lasted about 3 1/2 years. But this time I paid a mechanic to do it this time. The pump this time cost $375 and with Iabor grand totaI was just over $800! Just a note: The fueI gauge DID N0T go crazy this time around. But I aImost went crazy trying to fix it myseIf. I just assumed that the pump was fine and I spent hours, days, M0NTHS!!! fiddIeing thinking it was the fueI injection. I did have the mechanic cIean the fueI injection.

You all must have really bad mechanics. Its obvious that any vehicle within running the course of so many miles will need repairs. PLUS, it has been clearly stated (by any good mechanic) that you should, under no circumstance, go under 1/4 tank. It will cause the fuel pump to overheat, damaging it and the sending unit. Have some responsibility. I got mine fixed for $500, and the only reason it went bad was because the first owner liked to drive it around until it started going "low fuel". I am right at 100,000 miles and this is the only serious repair I have had, and I even went offroading three times for full days.

Gas gauge hasn't worked in years. Never fixed. Just use odometer. Pain but I don't drive much so not unbearable.

Spent $1500 just before winter on brakes, wheel bearing, etc. and only have a little over 75,000 miles on vehicle.

Had two leaks. One while under warranty. The same leak occurred the next year that cost me $600 because no longer under warranty.

The fuel gauge was constantly flipping between either completely full or empty with the fuel light on. We had to use the trip meter. The problem is, its never exact, and I ran out of gas on more than one occasion. When the fuel pump finally went out, the service tech told me that a flipping fuel gauge is the warning sign that your fuel pump is going out. Its unfortunate that nobody told me this earlier. It severely inconvenienced me. Lucky for me, the fuel pump went out in my driveway, but it was aweful to be stuck 20 miles out of town without a vehicle. The only reason the repair was so cheep was because my Dad and my boyfriend replaced it themselves. It actually only cost me $300 but the shops all told me that for parts and labor it would be between $700 and $800. Now the service engine soon light comes on every time I fill the tank to full. New problems arise constantly. I'm really getting sick of this vehicle.

OK so when my grandmother gave me the car she left out one small tiny thing. she said it was like that when she purchased it. Only 15,000 miles on it by then. The gage doesn't work. it stays on full or empty all the time. The only way to know if you are out is when the low fuel light is on and the gage doesn't move. I've ran out of gas twice now trying to find out how low on fuel I am. Luckily, I was rolling into the gas station both times when the car died. 17 gallon tank, so I have to keep calculated how many miles I need to go before fueling. It's a pain in the ass, because sometimes I can by on 300 miles and out or 275 miles and out. Depending on how many times I stop and go stop and go and run the air conditioner or not. I notice when you stop suddenly, the gage goes from full to low in a matter or seconds. I wish I knew what the problem was, so i can fix it as soon as possible.

i am only oh so sorry i did not find this website before today. The number of times i have run out of gas looking like a damn fool because the gauge said one thing and meant another.I have to reset my mileage every time i fill up...and it is such a pain in the ass to keep guesstimating how many more miles i have before i have to fill again.....or run out en route...it swings from empty to full to half full all day, with no rhyme or reason. i thought i bought a lemon, but now i realize what i really just bought............was a crock of SH!T !!!! I am car shopping and will never buy a Chevy again.....i have had nothing but heartache with this truck! The ball joints and brakes and bolts and pitmans arms have all been replaced some twice over and i'll be damned if its still not squeaking again. every time i take it to my mechanic the quote is never under 700 dollars total...and this year alone i have spent in excess of 3500 dollars fixing this godforsaken truck....and i just want to slice my wrists when i realize that i have yet something else wrong with the damn never shutting up wheels...or whatever it is that is squeaking down there. My 4 wheel drive went out, my driver side window motor went out, the brake lights have gone out and cost me a ticket as well....damn seat belt on passenger side went out, and i had to pay 220 dollars because it would not pass the inspection....... the handle that adjusts the seat broke and so my seat is stuck in one position...here i was thinking i was a carpercondriac (made up word)....anyways you get what i mean....im just blown away that gm can get away with making all this faulty trucks....seriously there should be a law against this. What a rip off!!! Thank you autobeef for providing this forum....i thought i was loosing my mind.

An expensive solution (500) from the

Chevy dealer. Gas Gauge works until about half full then at about 1/4 full will dip to zero and quickly start showing more gas level than is really there.
