About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.

My 9 year old son unbuckled the left rear seat belt (where he had been seated) after I parked the vehicle in my driveway. Somehow he became entangled in it when he turned around in the seat to look in the cargo area. The belt became wrapped around his stomach as he struggled to free himself, and because the belt would not release, but kept getting tighter and tighter, there was no way to get him out of it. I had to get my sewing scissors to cut him free as the belt wouldn't give us any slack, but kept reeling in, getting tighter and tighter. I'm concerned that some child may get one of these belts wrapped around his neck. Once the unbuckled belt is reeled in, it won't give any slack until it goes all the way in. If someone gets entangled, and there isn't a knife or scissors handy, I'm afraid there will be a fatality.
