I bought my 2001 Blazer for the sole purpose of having a family car that was not too expensive. I wanted an SUV so when we had a child I could place the car seat in the rear center position- the safest position in an event of a crash. My daughter is now 8 months old and in researching car seats for 1 year olds I have found that in my owner's manual it states "do not use center seat positions for child restraints. The restraint will not function properly." That is all it said. I have tried over and over to get an answer as to why the seat belt will not function properly. I do not want to wait until the event of a crash to find out. This issue is one I believe would be extremely important to every mother out there who drives this vehicle if they knew what the manual says. Who would think that if there is a seat belt in the rear center position designed to hold an older child or adult would not be fit to hold a car seat? I have called Chevrolet and the only answer they had for me was the vehicle was not designed that way. They say not to put a child restraint in that position. But the only question I have is why and no one can tell me the reason. I would just like an answer or at least the other mothers out there who just want the safest for their child to know. My infant seat fits great in the rear center position, it is so snug that I can't budge it. But like I said I do not want to wait until a crash to discover a defect in the seat belt.
