I have a 2010 Camaro with the AY6 manual transmission and V6 motor. I had the pressure plate bolts replaced under warranty after my transmission failed to shift into first, second, or any of the other gears suddenly after 14,000miles of adult driven normal use..the tech from GM told me the bolts were not torqued down from the factory(aisin/warner) and had been redesigned by GM.....ok. After researching this matter further I've found that hundreds of people have been having multiple problems with this transmission and the dealers and GM are trying to ignore that the problem exists. This transmission has a factory torque rating that is 273 ft lbs and the GM 3.6 vvt motor that is in our Camaros puts out 278 ft lbs from the factory.so right off the bat the trans is destined to fail prematurely from this obvious problem and they are trying to pass the cost off to the customer in alot of cases.I was one of the fortunate ones who had the first problem covered but now im afraid to drive the car like a sports car in fear of facing thousands of dollars in repairs due to gms irresponsible actions by placing an inadequate transmission into an amazing car.im sure your aware of the problem from the other complaints filed but I know for a fact that not all have went this far as to contact you on this situation. There are four tsbs out on this pressure plate issue alone as well as other multiple problems that others are having with this transmission and I truly feel this can become a serious safety issue and a problem that needs to be addressed by General Motors and not at the expense of the people who believed in buying an american product only to find out that this major flaw in planning and purchasing from aisin/warner is happening to the public and people throughout the world who purchased this car. Thank you for your help and understanding and I hope this helps in resolving this problem with General Motors.

Shifting from 1st to 2nd gear at higher RPM results in grinding and missed/delayed shift.

1st to 2nd gear grind/bind with manual transmission V6 Camaro. Have had this problem since purchasing new and I know many others with identical cars who have the same issue. GM refuses to address the issue, taking it to the dealer solves nothing as they do not acknowledge it.

Vehicle is a 2010 chev. Camaro V6 engine with manual transmission. The car routinely will not shift from 1st to 2nd gear resulting in sudden deceleration and near miss rearend collisions in traffic.
- Santa Clara, UT, USA
2010 Camaro V6 manual transmission experiences notchy shifts from N to 1st, N to R, and 1st to 2nd. Often times the notchiness is enough that shifting back into N or 1st is required and an additional attempt must be made to shift.

At high engine RPM (4000 RPM or higher)while merging in to traffic, transmission grinds or refuses to go in to second gear. This has happened several times in my car. GM replaced the transmission with the same type transmission and the same thing is still going on.

Car has been repaired by dealer multiple times along with replacement of brand new parts on vehicle. Even after all of the repairs the transmission does not properly work. The transmissions will prevent you from engaging into first gear and second gear at certain times. I have researched the transmission and know that this is not an operating feature of the vehicle. In addition, there have been other vehicle in the past that have been equipped with this transmission and have the same exact issues. General Motors has provided warranty work on the vehicle but problems still persist even after a new transmission and new clutch have been put in the vehicle. I feel unsafe at times to be driving this car when it prevents me from downshifting into certain gears.

2010 Camaro rs, V6 manual transmission.--veh shifts hard and at time's can not get into second gear and this has almost caused me 3 accidents already. While im in traffic--when its not shifting to bad, it gets what I call gear clash, or tech term is that it is the syncros in transmission grinding going into gears as you shift.- also clutch is intermit releasing high and causes big jerk in veh like someone pulling on E brake as you release clutch. Dealer has been grat [two of them] but there is only so much they can do until G.M. admits there is a problem, and I know 6 people who already got rid of veh as GM wont come up with fix, on the V6 manual or the V8 manual trans, which V8 manual has a shift issue that GM refuses to acknowledge. Its only a matter of time before im rear ended in traffic because of veh wont go into second gear. In which should be address for safety issue. Wife wont drive veh now because of this.

Transmission grinds when shifting to from first to second under hard acceleration or when down shifting into second. Grinding occurs intermittently however occurs more often when warmed up. Other distinct issue that may be related is that hard put into gear, primarily first and reverse, when stopped.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that when shifting from first to second gear at 15-20 mph, the transmission would lock up and shift to fourth gear. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was told that it was designed to function that way. The dealer stated that it was a part of the skip shift operation. The current mileage was approximately 3,600. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000 updated 11/16/10 updated 11/26/10

The new Chevrolet Camaro has a defect in the manual transmission causing the clutch to burn out after only a few thousand miles. This problem is well recognized over the internet and clearly GM knows about it because they have already designed a new clutch which was installed on my car last week. However they did not notify me as a new owner of this potentially dangerous defect and did not even notify my dealer until I brought the car in. I knew there was a problem a month ago but never considered the possibility of a clutch problem in a car with only 5,000 miles on it. Had I known of the problem, I would have brought the car in electively rather than after I could no longer get into 1st gear or reverse!
