Camaro 3.2L V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 5,000 miles

I bought the 2015 Camaro brand new in April of 2016. It has been in the shop at least 6 - 8 times for the key getting stuck in the ignition. The problem started when the car had only around 5,000 to 7,000 miles on it. They couldn't pin point what was causing it. Finally, they changed some sensor and put a brand new gear shift in it after about the 6th or 7th trip to the shop. Now, it has started doing the same thing again. I have owned Toyota, Mercedes, Cadillac, Ford, Dodge, Scion, Chrysler and Mazda and this is BY FAR the worst vehicle that I have EVER owned. I am looking to go through an arbitrator to see what I can do about it.

i bought my car from MidState back in 2015, not only did the sales man lie about a couple of things.

I have not taken it back to them again until Monday April15, 2019. The vehicle has had a problem for a year and a half with the key getting stuck in the ignition. The dealer I take to was finally able to duplicate the issue, they said the keys were not cut correctly for a recall. They stated that Mid state did the recall before I purchased the car, even my sales person said that Mid State had done the recall.

Long story short, I sat at Mid State Monday for 2 hours for them to say, that the mechanic there saw the issue. But, that the car had never had a recall on it and they did not do the recall. They cleaned out the grooves on each key, said they were dirty from putting them in my pocket, which I don't do. I mentioned that I sat there for two hours for nothing.

The service advisor said " if that's how you feel". He wanted me to drive it around their parking lot to see if it would fail. Of course, it didn't fail until I got home. I don't believe it is a key issue, because last week, I took the key out and the car stayed running for at least 45 seconds.

I feel like both dealerships are giving me the run around, especially Mid State. Once they sell the car, they are done with the customer, my next step is to call Chevrolet. I should not have to pay $185 per key for new ones. I have never had a key wear out in 4 years, maybe 30 years. Then what if it is not the key. I would not take anything to Mid State or purchase from them!!!!!!

Camaro 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 48,000 miles

My key gets stuck in the ignition, this may happen a couple times a day or may not happen for extended period of time. Took the car to the dealership, they had a diagnostics technician try turning the car on and off and trying to remove the key all day. They had the car for 12 hours. I was told the tech could not get the key to fail, however the service tech said it happened to him when he was bringing my car around. but the diagnostics tech had left for the day. I asked what I should do and he told me the entire ignition assembly may need to be replaced and that would cost around $500-$600. He suggested I see if the problem increases and then look at my option. He also said there were no reports of this problem happening on other Camaro's.

Camaro LT Convertible V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 44,000 miles

A few times the key would get stuck, and we'd wait 10 secs to 2 minutes and you could hear the locking mechanism unlock, and the key would come out. This last time, it would not come out when we made it an hour away for dinner, and we finally gave up and went into the restaurant to eat and left the keys in the ignition, and the car unlocked (can't lock the doors when parked and the key in the ignition) and hoped it would not get stolen. When we got home I had to insert a screwdriver into the bottom of the steering column and feel around until I somehow managed to push the plunger back into the solenoid to get the key out. We tried restarting, putting the car in and out of gear, different steering wheel positions, moving the car... nothing would work but the screwdriver method.
