Camaro SS2 6.2L V8

  • Automatic transmission

Just reached 5,000 miles. This is a brand new 2017 off the lot this December. I've had 5 Camaros in the last 5 years;2013,2015,2016,2017LT, then traded up to the 2017 SS this December . . .love the car, handles well and fun to drive, at least up to now. Last week in a parking lot, when I started my car the Dash alerted me to the FAILURE of the (EPS) Electric Power Steering Assist. Trying to turn the wheel, having a sealed and closed hydraulic steering system without power assist is IMPOSSIBLE. You cannot muscle the steering . . . I've driven tractors that handled easier. I checked under the hood, everything was visibly in order, restarted the car and drove on with power steering assist working, but scared to death having 455 HP under the hood. I have to drive my car, I have no choice . . . Two days later I get a RECALL notice of this exact problem! The only help this notice was is that it informed me to restart the car to begin a new ignition cycle, which starts the EPS working again . . . A week later, headed up north on the mountain highway going 80 mph it happened again . . .the dash reported a simple "power steering service needed" alert. I'll tell you, although the car was moving I had no control, the inertia of over steering keep the car in the direction I was going. In my case almost off the mountain curve into a canyon below. I was hoping I could muscle it when in motion, but this is a myth. When the road changes direction, the car keeps going in the direction it was going . . .you can NOT stay in your lane if this happens in a curve. I stopped the car in the road, hit the flashers and restarted it. I could have easily ended up dead in a ditch . . . it didn't do it again in that ignition cycle . . .I'm also terrified of driving through town in the Roundabouts. If this happens at slower speeds I will not be able to straighten out of the Roundabout, causing me to jump the curb or T -bone the next entering car. My dealership is working on getting me a rental: I'll believe it when I see it . . .meanwhile I am forced to risk my life and others' lives because the RECALL stated there is NO FIX!!! WTF? Someone PLEASE get on this and find the FIX!!!
