Captiva LX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

We bought this Chevy Captiva last year and it was a great ride til Feb 2019, the engine light came on ended up having 2 sensors replaced in June and that didn't solve the problem. Had 2 different garages state it needs a timing belt, even though the mileage is only 72000. I have read 4 other complaints about the exact same issue on their Captivas. Chevy needs to take care of this problem since more customers are writing about it has to be some kind of defect not happy at all!!!!!

Signed the contracts and drove home. The NEXT DAY the check engine light came on. I took it back to the dealership, who said that Chevy's are notorious for the "Tighten gas cap" notification to engage and set the check engine light to continuously come on. Was told that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Fast forward three years, and the alternator went out unexpectedly, leaving me stranded three hours from home. Fast forward ANOTHER three years, and the transfer case goes out. Yet ANOTHER issue that I had no clue something was wrong because of that STUPID CHECK ENGINE LIGHT! How are consumers supposed to do effect preventive maintenance when the warning system is FAULTY from the beginning?

This is the second time in the 3 1/2 years that I had the car that I had problems with the check engine light. Each time a different fix. Fortunately I have an extended warranty plan, otherwise it would have cost me a small fortune,

The check engine light came on, took it to Auto Zone and they said it was a sensor in the fuel tank. Went home, started it the next day, no check engine light, drove to work, still doing fine. Got in it to drive home, halfway there started losing power, pulled in a driveway and it died. Had to call a tow truck to tow it to dealer the day we were supposed to leave on vacation. It was a Friday, they couldn't check it till Monday. Then they told me the damage - $560 out of pocket. Hope no other sensors go out soon, can't afford it.
