2000 Chevrolet Cavalier battery acid leaked. The acid damaged other components on the vehicle. The second incident occurred on Oct 6, 2005 the acid leak damaged the battery tray, transmission coolant lines, inner fender and frame (delco battery).

After ignition switch recall 04V036000 repairs were performed the engine service light came on, and the daytime running light flickered. Vehicle was taken back to the dealership, who indicated that the battery needed to be replaced. The battery was replaced, but didn't correct the problem.

After purchase of my vehicle - battery was dead dealer replaced new battery lost coolant - engine was smoking then found out vehicle was on recall had to replace rotors and pads with less than 20,000 miles on vehicle something needs to be done to improve the brake system on the Chevy Cavaliers they do not last. I commute to work by train and hardly drive so I was surprised with all the problems with this vehicle with not alot of miles.

High beams & drl's stopped working, checked fuses, none blown. Took to dealer and found that battery that had been previously replaced for leaking, was again leaking. The acid damaged headlight wire harness making drl's and high beams non-functional. Dealer says battery has no warranty even though battery states 5 year warranty.

Battery leaked acid from positive post down into battery box which drained into engine compartment and on to the electrical harness junction which is routed under the battery box. There is no drain tube to drain any acid overflow down under the car. The acid burned through the junction and shorted out the main harness to all the lighting on the front of the car. If this had been at night I would have lost my headlights and turn signals. There is minor damage to torque converter housing and motor mount. I'm waiting now to hear from the dealer as to when the car will be returned to me after the repairs are done, and see if Chevrolet will take care of the repairs. It is my belief they need to install a drain tube in the battery box and reroute this harness away from this area. I fear as to what would happen if this had been at night and I was driving down the road at highway speeds. Light comes on, on dash consumer has taken vehicle to the dealer, and they told him that it was nothing wrong with vehicle.when he was on vacation, radiator hose busted. When he returned home, he went to the dealer, and was reimbursed some of his money back by the dealer. Also, was told by dealer when dash light indicator that something was wrong with battery.

Daytime running lights are inoperative. Acid from battery post leaking out and dripping onto harness connector, melting plastic, and plastic corroding the connector, which can cause an under hood fire.

When turning steering wheel sharply there was a popping sound at all times. Dealer replaced power steering shaft. Consumer states engine light comes on while driving, squealing noise from passengers side of engine especially on cold starts, and engine is slow to crank up-intermittent, battery was replaced, also vehicle would not start, dealer found fuel pump was inoperative and replaced fuel pump.
