My ac went out during the summer in FL, which conveniently was the summer that all four window motors went out. I had a nine month old at the time. The only way that the car would get cold was driving consistently over 40 miles per hour, which is impossible seeing as how you have to stop every two seconds for traffic lights and stops signs, and so on. Oh and I couldn't even stop for more than a couple of minutes because the fan wouldn't run and cause the vehicle to overheat. Finally after dealing with the problem for about 18 months (as a single mom, I couldn't afford to take it to a shop) my boyfriend went to a junk yard and bought a used motor and replaced it. It's worked ever since. But at the time the car was 6 years old. Really, 6 years and already replacing a list of parts...ridiculous!!
