cracked subframe - engine cradle

Family has been a strong support of GM products for years. Very disconcerting to have the front wheel go sideways on my daughter's 2002 Chevy Cavalier that could have resulted in a serious accident. Car was towed to a service center that diagnosed problem as being a cracked sub-frame (engine cradle). They said this is common on Chevy Cavaliers and a quick Internet search confirmed same.

GM won't stand behind these vehicles based on their age & mileage, however a fair amount of them remain registered on the road and a percentage of them are just an accident waiting to happen.

Will think twice before buying, recommending, or trusting GM products from this point forward. Very disappointing that poor quality materials and/or design flaws built into these cars.

Think twice before buying a Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac Sunbird, etc.
