Well this started just a couple of months after buying the car. Purchased new on DEC.23,2002. Engine light came on in Feb or March 2003. When we took it to the dealership, they said it was something to do with the fuel emissions system. Claims the sensors are just very sensitive and I likely just had a spec of dirt on the gas cap seal. He wiped the cap and turned the engine light off.
About a year later the light came on again, same code. They didn't even look at it they just hooked up the code reader then deleted the code to turn the light off.
After this I just quit taking it in and they would turn the light off if it was on when I got the oil changed. Over the coarse of the warranty, they turned the light off about 5 or 6 times.
I don't know if they are able to make the light stay off for a piriod of time or whatever, but it was out for 6 months and came back on again a few weeks after the warranty was expired.
I had a friend of mine who is a Chrysler/Dodge Mechanic look at it for me. He says the problem is in the emissions evap system but he's not sure what is causing it as he don't work on GM vehicles. He suggested changing the gas cap, I got a new one and it made no difference. Now for the last 2 years, when we delete the code for the light to go out it usually comes back on within a few days.
I also had to replace my fuel pump at around 90,000Km. I believe this has something to do with causing that. If anyone has had this issue, please post. If you fixed yours, PLEASE tell me what you fixed.
