Bought the car brand new, while I was in high school, which wasn't easy! First few years were great, then the wheel bearing went out, outta nowhere. Fixed it. Then the gauges started going crazy! My gas stays on empty, the temp works when it wants to, speedometer stays on 0, luckily, the rpm's haven't gone out yet, I kinda use what gear I'm in along with where the gauge is to determine my speed. NOT going to pay the dealership $700 to fix the gauge problem they should have had recalled. Everything was fine for a while, then in 2008, clutch went out, with absolutely no warning, while driving in the middle of the highway. 2009 clutch slave cylinder went out, and the clutch went out again. 2010 Master cylinder went out, then the wire connected to the master cylinder broke about a week after I fixed it. Then just this weekend, the slave cylinder went out again, got it fixed, and not even a full day later, it looks like the alternator is going out. I understand that parts go out and eventually you'll have to replace or repair a lot on your car, but my car is only 6years old, and every time something breaks down, I find out it was how the car was built, GM needs to recall these cars before someone gets in a bad accident from their faulty building! I've put well over 2000 dollars to keep my car running, but can't seem to find any dealership will to take it as a trade in for anything decent. One dealership even told me they will never take my make, model, and year of my car because every one they've sold in the past got complaints from their customers.....disappointed in GM's lack of responsibility they are taking. Will probably never buy another chevy again.

My husband and I went to a movie last night, and pulling into the parking space the clutch went to the floor. We checked the fluid and refilled it...still no pressure in the clutch system. In the pouring rain we speed shifted and got to the interstate where we were able to get the car home. We were able to examine the line that we had found people reporting to be damaged, and found mine damaged as well...but not to the point of rupturing the line.
The sad part is...none of the local part stores carry the one piece unit that you have to get to replace it. If you got this piece did you get it from the dealer??? This IS a VERY dangerous problem and Chevy SHOULD address it.. But if you go to their website you can not even register complaints for the CAVALIER!!!! What CRAP! We are gonna call Chevy and fight with them tomorrow..because clearly this is a design flaw and should be addressed before someone gets killed.

Setting: Driving alone at 6 pm on Saturday night in the middle of Christmas holiday traffic on the way to my job’s Christmas dinner, which started at 6:30 pm.
Just as I was about to enter Hwy 496, I pushed my clutch in to shift to the third gear. My clutch did not pop back up and my gear was stuck. I was completely shocked for about 30 seconds as I tried to think of the best possible way to get out of crazy traffic, which was now going at 45 – 50 miles around me. I turned on my hazard lights, slowly moved to the slow lane and then drove slowly to the nearest parking lot. I waited for an hour for roadside assistance to come meet me. Needless to say I missed a wonderful Christmas dinner/ party.
The dealership was not able to tell me what the problem was, so I have been driving around in a rental for two days. As soon as possible, I will be returning to Honda as a customer. I tried saving money by purchasing a Chevy but the inconvenience and lack of safety is bigger than the Honda monthly payments.
Merry Christmas Chevy!

This should be a recall item. The car is less than three years old. The hydraulic line/hose that runs between the clutch master cylinder and the slave cylinder (transmission) chaffed on the brake lines and main electrical plug and broke. If it happens to someone who does not know how to speed shift without a clutch, they will be stuck on the side of the road or even worse, could cause an accident since the car will stay in gear. The cost of parts was $92.00 for the assembly. Labor would have been $140.00 if I hadn’t done it myself. I added a chaffing tube around the hose for more protection.

I have a 2005 Chevy Cavalier and in 2008 the clutch went out.. My son put in a new clutch and it still went to the floor. after checking parts out we noticed that the clutch master cylinder line was imbedded into a metal bracket which causes a hole in the line. I contacted the chevy dealer and they replaced the master cylinder line at their cost. Tuesday evening when my husband was coming home from work the clutch pedal went to the floor again.. Guess what the hose is imbedded into that bracket again.. now im a bit angry so I called the chevy dealer and talked to service manager. He actually came to my home and looked at the car... He seen the leak in the hose.. Next day he called GM warranty and they are refusing to fix this design issue they say ware and tear and due to year of car and mileage they wont fix it.. This should be a recall issue here and im pissed... I got the number from the service manager to call GM customer service and u bet I did.. I am going to stand my ground with GM for this is not a ware and tear issue, my god you dont put a metal bracket right on to a hose.. this could have really caused a accident and injury not having a clutch.. This is now the second time I am having to deal with this and I am not happy... I seen different sites about the clutch issue and was wondering how many other people have dealt with this...
