I have been driving for 18 years. I've always owned chevy's. In 2006 I bought a brand new '06 Chevy Cobalt.. First brand new car I've ever owned. Drove it for a few years without any problems. Then one day I was driving to my friend's house and heard 3 dings and saw the information center flash something for a split second, but couldn't tell what it was. All of the sudden, my transmission starting shifting really hard, and in the wrong gear and was bogging my motor. I drove it the rest of the way to my friends house like that, and left it there for the day. When I drove it later that evening, everything was fine. Everything was fine for the next year, when suddenly it did it again, but this time I could see that it said Power Steering for about 2 seconds. I didn't lose my power steering, but my transmission acted up again. About a month later, I was in an accident (it was my fault) and insurance covered it and was repaired at a dealership. They told me I needed to have an airbag recall and a power steering recall done. So I got the car back almost a week later and drove it with no problems for almost 2 months. Then the power steering flashed again in the information center. So I shut the car off and restarted it, and no problems for several months. My mom drove my car to work one day cuz her car was in the shop, and on her way home, it happened to her while going 30 mph and she lost power steering, the gauges were moving wildly, and the trans was shifting really hard and way too early.. Suddenly, this year (especially when it was raining or had just been raining) it has been happening more and more often. The check engine light finally came on once, so I scanned it and it was a transmission control failure code and a "serial bus comm off" code. It started happening more and more often (without setting a check engine light). Sometimes once a week.. then 10 times a week.. now everyday! Today I started my car, and as soon as I started it, the radio made a noise and quit working. Power steering message will not go away and the gauges work about 15-20% of the time. When they don't work, the information dispalys only dashes. When the gauges start working again, the information display comes back. If the transmission acts up, I turn it off and restart it. So far, haven't had many instances where the power steering would go out. Figured it was the BCM that caused my radio failure and probably the TCM for the trans failure. I haven't had it diagnosed, but after finding this sight, whats the point?? I already know what they're going to tell me! I just got done paying this car off last month and now I find out I gotta put another $1500 into it?? F*** buying another chevy! My 2 sisters and my brother-in-law drive chevys cuz I do! If chevy doesn't fix this problem with no cost to the customer, I will NEVER EVER EVER buy another chevy again!!! And I will never recommend buying one to any of my customers or friends!!!!! This is OBVIOUSLY a manufacturer defect! I just got done reading about 100 complaints that ALL HAVE THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS AND EXPENSIVE REPAIRS!!!!! and thats just people that have found this site and are pissed off enough to complain about it!!!! I wonder how many people in this country have had this issue?? Only GM knows.....

Cobalt LT2 4 cyl

So, when I stop at a red light and have to sit for a while, the car jerks. I would have to say that it could be the car shifting down to first gear, but I'm no mechanic. My brother (who is a mechanic) says it could be the torque converter. Anyhow, it always makes me look in the mirror to make sure the car behind me did not just bump me. I do not know what to do! I have an extended warranty that will be out in less that 9k miles when I turn over to 100k (yes, I know, I have put A LOT of miles on my car in the 3 1/2 years I have owned it).
