Cobalt

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

My daughter purchased the car used, from a dealership with her savings so she would have a dependable car for college. The car ran absolutely fine up until the day she started losing engine power. Within a couple miles the car stopped completely. We had it towed to a mechanic we trust. Right now the report is probably blown out valves since there isn't any engine compression. I have never had a car engine go at this low of mileage. I have taken her car in for oil changes and service. It was a well maintained vehicle that should have lasted for many years.

Update from Oct 29, 2013: The timing chain broke and destroyed the engine. I had the engine replaced. The mechanic showed us the extensive damage. This engine is in many vehicles other than the Cobalt and is supposedly dependable. I have never had an engine replaced at 78,000.
