Cobalt LT 2.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 96,313 miles

I am a retired auto tech(35)years and have seen junk like like this before, but not as bad. After the problems G.M. had I figured they would at least TRY to make something more dependable and safer. All they have done is add more cheep parts and charge a ton to replace or repair them, actually they have done a very good job creating a DISPOSABLE CAR. I purchased a cobalt for my daughter and she is afraid to drive it . One thing after another. But the front end on these things NEEDS a total redo. Funny the japanese auto makers rarely have front end issues

A recall should be make for all GM Cobalt. The power steering will not working. I took it to the shop they told me that most complaint is coming in because of the power steering. They told me that it had to be replace. I check on line to see if anyone one else is having the same problem, and found out that there are a lot of people are have the same problem with this car. Note: my car is 2007, checking to see how far this problem goes, well found out the year of car are 2005, 2006, 2007, Something has to be done to many car out there with this problem. Light come on telling of the power steering. Hard to turn, turn off car. To replace can range from $650-$2,000. Does anyone has any idea to make a complain to the maker. I need a number to call.

My 20 year old granddaughter drives this car. She had problems with the power steering suddenly stopping to work. On the internet, I found there is a protection mode on the electronic assist power steering. Turning the steering wheel all the way to one side and holding several times causes it to heat up. It automatically switches to protection mode, so the engine doesn't over heat. She had to learn not to do this. It doesn't happen with the electronic assist power steering systems on our Toyota.

Cobalt LT 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

Last year a bought a 2007 Chevy Cobalt for my daughter who had just turned 17. The car rode smoothly and I was impressed with the overall handling. This unfortunately only lasted for 9 months. My daughter was driving home from work at 1230am on Sunday nite only to call me hysterical that the steering got hard all of a sudden. I told her to calm down and pull over and I would be there as quickly as I could. Well after explaining to an officer that stopped me for speeding, the officer and I both got to my daughter and sure enough, the power steering did fail on her. I proceeded to drive the car home carefully, and ever since then the steering has been an ongoing problem. I can't unload the car cause I owe $9000 on it. So now I'm researching to replace what I need to replace on this piece of junk. I do hear a click under the dash right when the steering gives out, so I'm replacing both the power steering contol module and the assist motor. Here's hoping this solves the problem. TO GM, I AM NEVER, EVER BUYING ANOTHER VEHICLE MADE BY YOU AGAIN!! MAY YOU MERCILESSLY GO OUT OF BUSINESS ONCE AND FOR ALL. WE COULD USE ANOTHER DOMESTIC CAR MAKER TO REPLACE YOUR INCOMPETENCE.

Cobalt 2 Doors 2.2L

  • Manual transmission
  • 43,900 miles

I bought this car in November 2007, it only has 18months with me and because of my long commute my warranty went over the 36000 miles (which are freeway miles mostly) and of course it's not covered anymore. this thing goes bad in a little period of time and now it costs me 1/10 of the value of the car for that little piece to be replaced. And seeing all these comments, I realize a lot of people are having the same problem, I think it's more than enough for GM to decide to recall and replace these parts. And finally, like a gentleman/lady who mentioned moving away from GM, I think it will be a consideration I will take next time I buy a car.
