I bought a 2007 Chevy Cobalt. I have had steering issues since I bought it at auction. So far I have had the inner and outer control arms replaced. I took it down to the place I bought it at and they supposedly replaced the rack and pinion. Now the power steering makes a slight squeaky noise. The power steering light does not come on. However it does lock up while turning and you have to turn the wheel even harder to get it to move again. This mainly happens while turning right. I'm waiting for the Chevy dealer to give me a call back so I can take it in to have it looked at. I will update my post after it has been inspected.

I am very upset with this cobalt. I've had two and both had racket and pinion problems. I've talked to several dealerships and they all say that Cobalts are horrible with this problems. Well if there is so many out there then why don't they have a recall. They won't because it will cost Chevy money. Well what about the vehicle owners? So not only am I paying 13,000 for a car now I gotta pay 2,000 extra for this problem to be fixed so in 6 months it can go bad again. I'll be putting the same racket and pinion back in it just for it to break again. These cars aren't made like the good old cavaliers. I understand some cars are gonna have problems. But for so many Cobalts to have issues this needs to be recalled. I thought this car was gonna be great but it has done nothing but cause me problems. Once I get a chance to get rid of this junk I will and I will never go back to Chevy. I've had 3 cars all Chevy and two of them was horrible. You would think Chevy could recall this since its the factory racket and pinion that goes bad not just on my Cobalt on all.

I have had my 07 cobalt from brand new and had zero problems with it until now. Last night while driving to look at christmas decorations we noticed a popping sound from underneath our feet at the front end when turning from left to right. I took the car into a local garage to get it checked out and they couldnt figure out what was causing the sound. Right now I have an appointment for next wednesday to serve the recall on the power steering, I have asked them to check out the popping also, I will report back when I find out what it is.

we take this car off the road because it's not safe.we don't have the money to repair the car because we are still making payments.need new MASK JACKET DAMN SHAME ON GM.HOW MANY FATALITIES BEFORE GM DOES SOMETHING.YES WE PAID 80.00 FOR CHECK OUT.GOOD CAR CHEAP PARTS

After research I've found out there is a recall from GM Goto www.safercar.gov or call NHTSA Hotline @ 1-888-327-4236 This applies to 2005-2010 Colbalts and also Applies to 2007- 2010 Pontiac G5.

I bought my 2007 cobalt lt used,had no problems,until now.I baby this car,stop at railroad crossings.It started if you went over a small hump,slowly,you could hear a knocking at the bottom of the steering column.Continued to get worse,sounded like the whole front end was going to fall out.My husband will not drive it and said I am going to get killed in it! I took it to 5 different mechanics,they checked the struts,springs,rack and pinion,etc..Could not find what was wrong.Finally one mechanic turned steering wheel left and right and it was knocking.He said take it to the dealer.They replaced lower steering column,right front lower control arm.$552.00 I plan to get the left one replaced to see if it helps the steering.They say this is not covered under the warranty.I have had Chevy's my whole life and never had this much trouble or had to spend this much money.When I drive down the road,people think I am drunk,I have to fight the steering,the car feels like it wants to go,where it wants to.Alot of play in steering now.I pull into a parking lot,tires are straight,but steering wheel is upside down.If going 55mph you have to fight the wheel,if it is a slow gradual curve,steering wheel is turned completely sideways,as if you were making a u-turn.I really hope they get this problem resolved...!...?...!

At 53,205 km the steering column assembly was replaced due to rattling going over bumps. At 62,607 km the steering started to bind so the intermediate shaft was replaced for it was seized . At 78,825 km the steering was rattling again going over rough roads and the steering column assembly was replaced again! First column was warranty but the seized shaft was my cost. I paid the labor for the third column and dealer got the parts on goodwill for it's a $500 item. The columns on these cars seem to be a chronic problem and people should report them to the safety divison of the government for they are the only ones who can order a recall!
