The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving 35 mph, the contact was informed by another driver that the rear brake lights were inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the brake light switch was replaced. Prior to the failure, the vehicle had been repaired at the dealer for recall 06V139000 (exterior lighting: Brake lights: Switch). The current and failure mileages were approximately 59,000.

I replaced a second brake light switch. First one was replaced under recall. Dealer said no open recalls for my vehicle. I had to pay out of pocket. Since this is only a $10 part, it's not the price but the safety issue. I have filed a complaint with you on this same issue on 12/16/2005 - (please refer to ODI number 10145757). Again I don't know how long this switch was defective, but I have noticed other vehicles tailgating more frequently in the last couple of weeks. This could have been out a day, or months. I am very concerned with a future accident, or an accident involving other 2004 Chevy Colorado owners, since the part I just purchased from the dealer has the identical part # - 25796381 - as the one I replaced. Without going into major detail, I again ask you to refer to the above ODI # as this complaint has the identical basis. Since I only have 44,900 miles on my truck, I would like to see a permanent fix for this part since it is a dangerous situation to drive without brake lights. Thanks for your time.

I have a 2004 Chevy Colorado, and this past week the brake light switch went out and caused my brake lights and cruise control to not function. My mechanic informed me that there was recall 09V310000 to address this issue. When I called my local dealer, they said that the recall was already filled in 2007 by the previous owner, and they could not help me. When I called GM corporate office, they said that due to the high miles (125,000) on my truck and the recall already being filled that they could not help me. The woman on the phone said that if the miles were not so high they would help me out. Also, she then went on to say that even with high miles they would have fixed it if the recall wasn't taken care of in 2007. She said that GM will not take care of a recall a second time even if it is the same problem recurring. It is ridiculous to think that there is a known problem with this switch, has been recalled, has been fixed, still not functioning correctly, and GM will not address the issue when it continues to fail. If it is such a problem that GM will do a recall for the part, why is it not a big enough problem to fix correctly or another time with the faulty part fails again? the consumer should not be stuck with fixing a part out of their own pocket for something that continues to fail and is under recall currently!

He checked the fuses and the bulbs which seemed to be fully functional. He read related recalls (06V139000 & 09V310000) since they were related to his failure. The dealer confirmed that his VIN was not included. He called the manufacturer and was also told that there was no related recall. The brake switch was repaired by the dealer. The current mileage was approximately 45,841. The failure mileage was approximately 45,820. Updated 10/12/10

She was awaiting a response from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 63,200.

- the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact was driving 35 to 4O mph while attempting to stop the vehicle and the brakes made a sound like metal grinding on metal. While coming to a stop in 2006 she had to pump the brakes. As a result, there was no grinding, but the dealer said the anti lock brake system was defective. The dealer said that if she purchased a warranty they would repair the brakes at no cost to the contact. Once the contact realized how unsafe the vehicle was she stopped using the vehicle, andwas currently driving a rental vehicle. There were no recalls listed on NHTSA website related to this incident. The contact attempted to call the manufacturer, and was unsuccessful with her current request to gain financial assistance in the repair of the vehicle. The contact stated she received recall number 06V139000 onh April 26, 2006 concerning exterior lighting:brake lights:switch.

I was pulled over by a police officer telling me that I had no brake lights. I had just previously changed the bulbs, so I searched for alternate problems and located the recall no. 06V139000. I contacted my dealer and they told me that my VIN # does not match the recall order. I contacted Chevy owner support and they told me the same thing, that they could not find a recall for my VIN # and there was nothing in the database showing a recall existed.

Upon further inspection by the contact, the interior lights failed to illuminate and the cruise control failed to engage. The service dealer and manufacturer were notified, and the contact was informed by the manufacturer the vehicle was not included in recall #06V139000 due to the VIN.

Soon after new vehicle purchase in 1/04, cruise control periodically became inoperative. I do know if the brake lights were also inoperative. Dealer could not duplicate the malfunction and did not diagnose a problem. This problem occurred approximately 5 times over the next 2.5 years. Recently, the cruise control became inoperative again, as well as the rear brake lights. I took the vehicle to the dealer and informed them that a recall had been issued, though I had not received a recall notice from GM. I presented the dealer with a printout of the NHTSA recall information. Dealer stated that there was no recall for my vehicle, and since my warranty had expired, I would have to pay for repairs. Repair consisted of replacement of the brake light switch. The total cost of the repair was $175.04. I'm not sure if this has any connection, but the vehicle was inspected just prior to expiration of the warranty. One week later, and after expiration of the warranty, the battery died and required replacement.

This is exactly the problem I am experiencing with my vehicle, yet after contacting them by phone, GM denies that there is a recall addressing the problem. I have not received a recall notice about the problem from GM. 2004 Chevrolet Colorado ls Z85 select different vehicle 1 recall notice these recall notices may not apply to all vehicles. Campaign number: 06V139000 date: 2006-Apr-27 component: Exterior lighting: Brake lights: Switch defect summary: Certain pickup trucks may experience the permanent loss of brake lamp function or brake lamps that are illuminated at all times. The center high-mounted stop lamp (chmsl) is affected in both instances. Also, if equipped, the cruise control will become inoperative. Any trailer brake lamps which are connected to the vehicle's brake lamp wiring will mimic the vehicle's brake lamps when either condition occurs. Consequence summary: A following driver may not know when the brakes have been applied, and a rear-end crash could occur without prior warning. Corrective summary: Dealers will replace the brake lamp switch assembly. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438; GMC at 1-866-996-9463 or Isuzu at 1-800-255-6727.

2004 Colorado cruise control switch and brake lights was inoperable. Mechanic replaced the faulty brake switch which took care of the problem at the time. ***** after the above repair the consumer was notified that the brake lights had failed again. He also noticed that the cruise control has also ceased to function. The vehicle was taken back tot he dealer to be inspected. Again the problem was diagnosed as a faulty brake switch. The consumer was told by one of the dealer's staff that corrosion had built up between the connector and socket for the brake switch until an electrical current failed to exist between the two. The problem recurred two more times.
