This truck actually belonged to a friend who got sick of the problem of it not starting and just gave it to me. I was an automotive electrical technician for many years and he thought that if I could solve the problem I could get some use from the truck, and it was well looked after and has no rust on it. So I accepted and have spent some spare time working at fixing the no start problem along with some other minor issues that aren't worth mentioning.
I have narrowed the problem to the ignition switch; this is not to be confused with the key cylinder, this is the small black plastic box that attaches to the back of the key cylinder. This should be known as the "PassLock Sensor", since this is what sends the signal that the vehicle is being started with the correct key and allows the engine to start and run. If you are having problems with your GM vehicles ignition; or just a no start problem, you will find it interesting how these cars were recalled and their owners provided with rentals until the know faulty switches could be replaced, but no trucks were included! Now in fairness, these problems were due to the vehicle shutting off while driving because of weak key cylinders that turned back to easily. But no matter the cause, the result is the same. You're driving down the freeway and your car/truck shuts down leaving you with no power steering, no power brakes, no engine power to get out of the way and stranded! You tell me, should GM recall all these faulty ignition switches???
