Approximately a month and a half ago, noticed lite brown substance on dip stick. Although I knew that this is related to moisture in the oil, when I changed oil in my Colorado I found no light brown contamination in old oil. I knew that this occurrence of light brown substance on dip stick is usually a result of a bad head gasket, but there is no loss of power, not engine cut out or misfire, no loss of antifreeze, and I have found no type of contamination inside of the oil fill cap and no contamination in the antifreeze of oil or any type of foreign substance. Upon contacting the service department of the local Chevrolet dealer in my area, the service manager didn't seem to want to answer any of my questions about my engine problem as to what could cause this problem, so I was passed onto a service technician who insisted that this engine needed a new head gasket replacement at a mere $900.00, even after I explained in detail my findings and could the problem be caused by something else. I asked him to explain to me if antifreeze in getting into the engine, why has there been no coolant loss, or there appears to be no contamination? He just kept pressing the issue to quickly get the vehicle in so he could get the head gasket replaced and make sure I asked for him. I have been told by independent mechanics that there are other items on this engine that can cause the same symptoms, but the dealership seems to want to stay with the most expensive. The service department did tell me that Chevrolet's 100.000 engine/drivetrain warranty's on these trucks did not start until 2007. Anybody got any ideas?

Just like the other complaints my 2006 Colorado is having the same engine problems. I can be driving and it will just go dead but will start right back up. I was told it was the CAM Shift as stated in other posts. I was also told I may have to have my engine re-built. Since this is a known problem with many Colorado owner why haven't GM recalled the truck and do the honorable thing and repair all that are having the same problems. I love the truck and would have considered purchasing another one but not now.
