The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that the brake lights were inoperable. The dealer replaced the brake light switch at the owners expense. The contact was able to locate a recall for his year, make and model (NHTSA campaign id number 09V310000: Exterior lighting: Brake lights: Switch) and when contacting the manufacturer, he was advised that his VIN was not included with the recall. The failure and current mileages were 59,045.

Hello I own a 2007 Chevy Colorado and the brake light switch failed. I had no brake lights what so ever I researched and found the recall on this and attempted to take the truck to the dealer. The Chevy dealer would not fix the problem for me they stated that the VIN number of the truck did not have any recalls. I had to pay for and replace the part myself.

I have a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck bought in Georgia and I currently live in Tennessee. I discovered upon entering my garage in the afternoon of 7/13/2009 that my brake lights were continuously illuminated and would not turn off despite repeatedly pressing them and turning the vehicle on and off. I was unsure over the source of this problem so I conducted a quick google search and found the news article regarding this particular issue encountered in my vehicle type fitting my exact description (campaign id 09V310000). I am very lucky that I know about vehicles, because at that point I was able to disconnect the defective parts power supply and not drain my battery until I could get to a dealership on July 14th. I arrived at the dealership and was treated very rudely, with the service department insisting that my vehicle was not part of a national recall. I showed them the article with the inclusion criteria, but was still not treated with any respect for my concern. This was a safety issue, and I was also lucky that my brake lights were illuminated at all (even if they were on at all times). I did some more investigation, and found the defective product in my brake pedal assembly. I disconnected it and brought it to the parts department to simply pay for a replacement product. Again, luckily they had a replacement product I could purchase which I did and replaced it myself. The lights now work properly, despite the best efforts of my local Chevrolet dealership.
