Ignition key cannot be removed and does not rotate to the "off" position when parking the vehicle. You have to move the vehicle and the steering wheel multiple times to get the key to release. Multiple GM cars have experienced this problem. GM document pit5233F calls this a normal characteristic on 11 models for multiple years. My vehicle has 32000 miles on it and the dealership replaced the shifter assembly. I contacted the dealer and GM customer service about this common problem that seems to need a recall.

While the vehicle remained in motion taking a turn on a roundabout, the vehicles power steering and stabilitrak suddenly turns off causing the vehicle to become very difficult to steer and near impossible to complete the turn. The situation happened twice in roundabouts in the past couple months. One of the times this happened my wife was driving while my two young children were in the vehicle. She described hitting the curb, because of lack of arm strength to pull the wheel. The issue resolves when you can safely park and restart the vehicle. After taking it to the dealer it was confirmed there was an electrical issue with the "steering gear pinion" and appears to be a known safety issue with Chevy Colorado's. the dealer mentioned the cost to replace this electrical component including labor was an upwards of 1800 dollars. For 2015 model years it appears 3000 vehicles were recalled for this exact issue, however a broader recall was not extended to the 2016 model year. After contacting GM it was expressed that they would not cover my vehicle under this recall at this time. I was charged for the diagnostic fee to determine the cause of issue.

Electric power steering quits with no warning and lose traction control and power steering. Dashboard lights come on to say power steering failure use caution. Problem is persistent multiple times a week with no warning. The only way to resolve issue is to stop for five minutes and restart engine. This temporarily fixes the issue but the problem will reoccur at unsuspecting moments. It has happened at varying speeds from 25 mph to highway speeds of 75. Causes the steering to become heavy and unmanageable requiring a speed reduction and stoppage to reset engine. Made appointment with dealer and was told the truck is out of warranty and that it would be an out of pocket expense.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the traction control warning light illuminated and the message power steering failure was displayed on the instrument panel. The steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. After turning off the vehicle and restarting the vehicle, the failure self corrected and the vehicle operated as designed. The vehicle was taken to Chevrolet of canton located at 250 Liberty blvd, canton, ga 30114, who diagnosed that the electronic steering motor and torque sensor were defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 84,000.

Was driving and at least 3-4 times now at various speeds(once idle)the 'driver assist' message would pop up on the screen and I would lose all power steering. I have 3 kids and luckily no times they have been in the car when this has happened but I'm worried to continue to drive the car, especially on the highway if it cuts off

Driving on city street and power steering went out and dashboard lights lit up-- stating power steering disabled, anti-skid not working, and to drive carefully. The truck was difficult to steer/control and lights remained on until I arrived at work. After work I started truck and everything appeared to be working. Half way home, I had the same thing happen. Very dangerous and hard to steer/control. Truck has never had any steering problems, never been in an accident, has new tires, and is taken care of.

While driving to work on 7/23/20 at 45mh I lost power steering and stability control, warning light came on and (lost of power steering and stability malfunction) came on the dash. Had to pull to the side of the road and turned the truck off, waited 10min then triad to start it and it reset itself. Then on 7/25/20 it happened again only this time I was on the freeway doing 65mh with my wife and almost caused an accident going around an overpass. Because it's the only vehicle I have to go to work I decided to take it 7/28/20 and on the way home it did it again only this time it caused the wheels to skip, scared the sh%T out of me. I read there was a recall so I called the dealer but they say my truck dose not fall under the recall. This is a huge safety concern and after doing some research on the internet I'm not alone. This needs to be fixed and I shouldn't have to pay for this.

Stabilitrak and power steering error indicator on start up. Restarted truck and fixed the issue until driving city streets for a couple of miles and the stabilitrak and power steering suddenly turned off while driving with the same indicators on my dash. Rest of truck seems to be working fine. No check engine light. Just service stabilitrak and loss of power steering indicator on dash board

The steering assist failed and warning messages appeared on the console for both the steering assist and the stabiltract system. I head the truck towed to the new smyrna beach Chevrolet dealer to have their 'trained mechanics repair the failure. Two days later after having called the service rep and the service manager asking for a return call with the status and getting no such calls I was finally able to elicit the cashiers help in determining the status of my truck. So I paid a $200 diagnostic fee and was told I needed a new battery to fix the steering failure. I bought their $150 battery with the assurances that all is back in working order. I drive the truck about 1/4 mile down the road and the steering assist quit again. Not only is Chevrolet allowing this dangerous malfunction to continue but their allowing this scam of $200 diagnostic fee and telling customers they need a new $150 battery which doesn't have anything to do with the steering failure. I'm buying a Ford or Dodge as soon as I can. No more Chevrolet for me.

Thursday morning I got into my Colorado Z71 truck which was parked in the driveway. The vehicle started up but the steering was locked up, I.e., very tight. Upon putting the truck into reverse to back out of the driveway I noticed how very stiff and almost impossible to turn the steering wheel. I turned off the engine then sat in the vehicle, still in the driveway, then I tried starting three more times where the engine started up fine but the steering was still extremely stiff. I called for a tow truck to come take my truck to the nearest Chevrolet dealer. Just before he was to arrive I went to move my truck into the street so it could be loaded on the tow truck's flatbed. The power steering had returned but I was afraid to try and drive the truck for fear the power steering would quit again. I'm writing this complaint two days later and the nsb Chevrolet has yet to put it the shop. The truck is our only vehicle but my wife and I are.both afraid to try and drive it.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving, the traction control warning light illuminated. Additionally, power steering disabled and drive carefully messages were displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was pulled over and restarted and operated as intended. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving 70 mph. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The following day the vehicle was taken to paradise Chevrolet located at 6350 leland St, ventura, ca 93003, where it was diagnosed that the negative cable from the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the negative cable needed to be repaired, however, that the cable had nothing to do with the power steering power failure. The technician also diagnosed that the power steering gear needed to be replaced due to sensor failure, and that the computer system needed to be reprogrammed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

This is the second occurrence of the problem I am going to describe. What occurred today was a loss of power steering while taking a right turn off of a side street onto a cross street into traffic. It was extremely difficult to complete the turn, and caused a dangerous situation where I almost crossed the lane into oncoming traffic. Upon straightening the vehicle out I noticed a electronic stability control warning message, then as I continued to drive to look for a safe place to stop, a no power steering message came on stating to drive safely or something to that effect. After I found a location to park, I repeatedly turned the car off and on in hopes of re-setting the systems. This did not have any affect on the faults and the messages remained. I also noticed when I reversed the vehicle, the back up screen gave me a message that there are no projection lines. I slowly drove the vehicle home the rest of the way while "muscling" it around turns. Approximately thirty minutes after I had arrived home, I restarted my vehicle and all systems worked correctly with no warning messages displayed. I had mentioned this was the second time this has occurred, the first time was about three months prior to this incident. I thought that I had accidentally turned the electronic stability control off or something. This instance the vehicle reset after I turned it off and restarted it. To note is this vehicle is extremely well maintained and in very good condition.

Electric powering steering failure. Driving down the road a warning comes on that says power steering drive with care as well as stabilitrak is turned off. The vehicle becomes hard to steer and after it cools off the warning goes away. This has happened twice in the past 12 hours to me driving home and to work on a city street.
