Power steering goes out intermittently while driving. Could be dangerous. Completely unpredictable, have to pull over and turn vehicle all the way off then start the vehicle again to clear code. I can barely turn the trucks steering wheel enough to turn in a driveway or other safe place to stop.

Merging onto highway at 65 mph on sunny warm day. Steering wheel locked up, power steering warning light came on along with 2 other warning lights. No power steering remainder of drive home / 17 miles of varying speeds and 5 traffic circles. Turned truck on in morning and power steering back on. Took to dealership - they said no codes in the system saying there was ever a problem, could not replicate, did not mention previous recalls for same issue in earlier model. Nothing they could do for me. 38,000 miles currently.

While driving 2016 Colorado lt a ding ding occurs seconds before the steering wheel locks I am then unable to steer the truck. I have to put the truck in neutral, shut it off then back on while coasting to resolve the issue. This happens often and always while the vehicle is in motion. City. Hiway. Turning. Driving straight. All occur.

After being parked for a few hours in -10 degree weather or colder I lose power steering. When I start the vehicle and attempt to back out of the driveway I am unable to turn the wheel without an incredible amount of effort. A service message appears stating "power steering assist. Drive with care." This has occurred every time I have left the vehicle in cold weather for longer than an hour or so. Each time this has happened I have been fortunate to be able to get the vehicle into a heated garage right away and after a few hours when I start the vehicle the power steering failure has resolved and the steering wheel turns with ease again.this sounds very similar to recall number 16V054000 (15595) on 2/1/16 for the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado which required the steering gear torque sensor cover assembly be replaced due to a loss or reduction in power steering assist. This is a huge safety concern. I looked up the issue on the internet and there are several complaints with 2016 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC canyons and many people have had it occur while driving on freeways at high speeds and around icy corners. Apparently, it can occur in any weather not just cold weather though my issue has only occurred since the weather dropped below zero.

After I parked the truck outside in about -15 for about 4 hours, I started the truck and tried to pull out the driveway but experienced a lost of power steering. I could barely turn. Fortunately, my friend let me use their heated garage. I let it sat for about 15 minutes, started it, and still no power steering and the "service power steering" message was shown. Let it sat for another 15 minutes, initially no power steering and same dic message, then all of a sudden it started working. Drove 20 minutes home without further problems. But that made me worry that if it happens at speed, the outcome would be very different!

This is the 2nd time this has happened. Once in 2018 approx Feb. The steering lost all electric assist. This always appeared after it was driven and had been parked. It did this about 4 times before the dealer would repair it. At that time everything was covered by warranty. This time, the same problem, loss of all steering assist after driving and it was parked. Same issue, this time they tell me the steering gear box needs to be replaced at a cost of over $2000. Exactly the same issue the 2015 was having. I have read the complaints and I fear this will happen at highway speed. We live in an extreme cold climate at times and both instances my vehicle was parked after driving in -20F weather.

I keep getting info messages while driving to service stabilalink and power steering and drive with car and I lose all power steering. It happens multiple times a day and dealer says they can't get it to do it when they drive it. At highway speeds it goes out and I have almost crashed several times due to not being able to control my steering. It happens often and 8 times today.

Service stablelink comes on and within seconds the power steering turns off. I have to pull over turn off the truck for 15 seconds to reset the computer and most of the time it stops. However there have been times when it does not reset and I have to drive without power steering. This happens randomly. I can be stoped on the highway or around town.

While driving from the grocery store to our house, the steering wheel became incredibly stiff and a message appeared on the dashboard warning me to service power steering and drive with care. I was making a right turn out of the parking lot onto the city street and the steering wheel went stiff and the message appeared. I had to move the steering wheel with a lot of force to avoid crossing over the correct lane and go onto head on traffic. Luckily the grocery store isn't far from my house. If my wife or sons had been driving then this could have ended badly. This isn't the first time I've lost power steering. This has happened while on the highway. When on the highway I turned to the off ramp and again the steering wheel went stiff with the power steering loss message. Since then the truck doesn't see much use. Lately, it has been getting so bad that the power steering doesn't even work and starts stiff when first turning on the truck. Sometimes the power steering isn't stiff when first turned on but the loss of power steering message still occurs. The truck just sits unused because it is flat out dangerous to drive. I've checked all of the fuses and they were all fine. I've disconnected the battery for 20 minutes and reconnected it and the steering wheel is still stiff and the same powering steering loss message.

While driving my 2016 Colorado I experienced a loss of power steering. It has happened many times and various situations weather it was at highway speeds or local roads. It has gone out while sitting still. There is no indication when it is going to happen. I attempted to have a dealership look at it while I was experiencing the issue and they refused to do it with out and appointment. How can I make an appointment when it is not a full time issue. It is a very dangerous problem to lose power steering while making a turn on a busy road. I am well aware that there was an issue with the 2015 models and there was a recall and now the 2016 models are experiencing the same issues and GM refuses to fix the issue with out it being an extremely expensive repair.

  • 36,000 miles
While driving at any rate of speed, in any condition, my power steering will suddenly disable, the gas/acceleration stops working and the stabilitrak light comes on. This has happened while backing out of a parking spot (after sitting all day long at work), it has happened going 35mph on a sunny day and another time going 45mph in the rain (happened last week). Fortunately I have always been on a straight street when it has happened. It is very difficult to steer if not impossible. If this happens while I'm on a curve it could result in a very bad accident. My wife says she will no longer drive it. The dealership told me they cant get it to duplicate while driving so they cannot help me. I only have 36,098 miles. I took it to the Chevy dealership at only 28 miles passed my warranty coverage. GM needs to recall this immediately. I've been loyal to Chevy. They should be loyal in return and fix this issue.

Power steering has gone out 4 times in last 6 months. ABS and traction control lights come on. Truck is impossible to steer. Have to stop, turn vehicle off and restart. Power steering back to normal. The error lights stayed on but after a few miles they went off. There is a recall on 2015 Colorado's for this very same problem. Guess NHTSA will wait until several people die before you expand the recall to 2016 Colorados

  • 13,000 miles
While driving in route to my residence I wad making a left hand turn at about 15 mph. In the process of making the turn the power steering completely failed. This caused me to bump the medium and all of the dadh warning lights came on. This occurred while on a 45 mph roadway turning into a residential neighborhood. This appears to be a power steering sensor or electrical issue. The vehicle had only 13,000 miles on it. Dealership was called (bakersfield ca. 10-22-19) and we were told this was not covered under warranty. Still not repaired at this time. Internet is filled with similar reports.

Driving my 2016 Chevy Colorado lt 4X4 down the highway and also on 2 lane roads in great weather conditions the service power steering and stabiltrak lights came on. Electric steering was disabled and I had extreme difficulty with turning left or right. This is the same recall as GM 15595. Turning the vehicle off and on resolves the issue temporarily. Now it is happening more and more and I do not feel safe with my family in the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving approximately 40 mph, the power steering suddenly failed without warning. The contact attempted to turn into a nearby parking lot with difficulty. The contact then parked and turned off the vehicle. Once the contact restarted the vehicle, the power steering resumed normal operation. The contact called lawrence Chevrolet (located at 6445 carlisle pike, mechanicsburg, pa 17050, 717-610-4134) to be diagnosed, but no failure was found. The dealer reset the vehicle's computer system related to the power steering. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 28,356. The VIN was unknown.

This 2016 Chevy pick up the right fronttire boke loose of the vehical and caused the vehicle to wreck into another car. The suspension on the lower attachment point broke away around the lower tyrod attachment point. The upper broke also at the attachment point. These parts are made of cast aluminum and have the lower tyrod where it attaches on is a tapered part if it is tightened to much T wil cause the casting to crack.it appears that this part had a crack in the part. I am a 49 year machinist nd see that the part is a pore design and is a low grade of cast aluminum use to attach this critical part of the vehicle. This vehicle was traveling less than15 mph when this occurred. Please look into this and let me know if you need more information. I lost power steering while driving our 2016 Chevy Colorado down an off ramp from an interstate highway. The steering wheel felt like it locked up. I had to take my eyes off the road to look at the warning messages and then process that it might be loss of power steering. This was an extremely dangerous situation as steering was very difficult and I still needed to get to a safe place to stop. I was able to pull through an intersection and get off the road. I turned off the truck and then restarted and the problem went away. I will take the truck to the dealer for an explanation hopefully.
