After making a short trip to the store I came out to find the steering column would not unlock. Digital information center read "service steering column". tow truck had to be called. Ref. In EA02-031

"service column lock" indication came up on the digital driver's information center (dic). This has been an extremely common problem with 1997-2000 Corvettes. Although the incident with my car took place upon start-up, meaning the car was not in motion, if it happened while the vehicle was in operation, it could be catastrophic. You simply cannot steer the car, since the steering wheel locks. Ref. In EA02-031
