Car sometimes won't shift out of park even though the brake is pressed. When this happens, repeated pumping of the brakes and shaking/hitting on the shift lever will eventually clear the problem. This is the same issue reported in these NHTSA id numbers for the 2005 Corvette: 10592630, 10592213, 10588824, 10586012, 10585827, 10579307, 10578116, 10577960, 10575060, 10573555, 10567037, 10561669, 10558088, 10513088. Chevrolet apparently has no tsb or recall for this common issue.

2005 Corvette with automatic transmission. Shifter gets stuck in park and cannot be released. Has happened multiple times. Can only be released by following a series of steps as outlined in manual. Believe the cause is due to a defective solenoid in shifter control unit. Looking at different websites this seems to be a problem with many Corvette owners.

I am the original owner. My 2005 C6 Corvette has an issue that I have just found out hundreds of others with this year have experiencing. My automatic transmission shift lever is stuck in park, leaving me stranded. I tried to move the shifter and it is locked in park. I am experienced with this vehicle and did apply pressure to the brake pedal. Which is procedure to start the vehicle & then move the shifter into drive. It still is locked in park. I found blogs online related to : "my 2005 C6 Corvette is locked in park. GM issued a recall on Saturn for auto transmissions and shifter problems, I am seeing more complaints online. Vehicle will not shift from park to drive. Vehicle shift lever will not allow movement from park. Vehicle is unable to move. Repeating the following procedure, repeatedly, will eventually allow shift lever to move from the park position to drive: Exit / re-enter vehicle, wait 10 seconds, place foot on brake pedal, press ignition switch, move shift lever, repeatedly until shift lever moves or place vehicle in "accessory" mode and attempt to move shift lever. All steps may be need repeated attempts. No force, beyond typical use or pressure to move shift lever, is applied. Problem is present in any type of weather, time of day. Surface is flat and level. Vehicle not parked on incline surface. Vehicle is not abused, raced, or driven in high-performance manner. Vehicle is not driven on a daily basis.

My 2005 C6 Corvette shifter is intermittently stuck in park, unable to be moved from park. It happens at the most inopportune times and I am fearful it will leave me stranded necessitating a tow to the dealer. So far I have been able to move the shifter from park after 10-15 minutes of "playing with the shifter". this happens 3-4 times per week, intermittently.

Our car is a garage queen and used very infrequently, its on a battery charger and fluid changes done annually. We noticed the car would not move out of park and into any gear. (ie. Stuck in park). It finally released and moves freely into any gear however when placed back into park there is no locking to avoid console mounted gear shifter from being bumped into gear. By law there is suppose to be a brake/gear/lock in all cars to avoid this. Unfortunately the brake pedal neithers stops or helps the gear selector from moving freely. Multiple online complaints suggest entire shifter needs replacement due to solenoid issue. Repair is over $1000 for small part and effects entire model year with no recall issued to date.

The key had to be turned to accessory in order to shift from park. The vehicle was taken to several dealers to have a diagnostic performed. The brake switch, the transmission control module, and the brake switch were replaced but the failure was not corrected. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 85,000.
