Steering column lock is defective can lock while driving this is a know issue on 2005 Corvettes GM is refusing to fix it they are claiming my care was not part of the recall but is suffering the same issue as other vehicles that were recalled this is a known issue on my vehicle.

While driving through a parking lot at roughly 10mph, my car jammed on the front left, then both front brakes, bringing me to a sudden stop. Active handling was showing in the driver information cluster just like when your car loses traction for any reason... I thought this was very odd as it wasn't raining, no sand or fluids were present on the road in front of me, and I was barely touching the gas pedal. I then checked to see if I had run something over or if anything was jammed in the wheels/brakes.... nothing visible. I get back in, reverse just fine, but as soon as I shift back to first and attempt forward motion boom it jams the brakes on again. I then re-clutched, tried again with a little more gas, thinking maybe I do have something stuck under the car.... nope, it still brings me to a stop immediately. At this point, I was freaked out....(needless to say) I held the active handling (traction control) button down until the system was fully disabled, after doing this I was able to drive the car back to work. I then found out about the recall and called the dealer. They told me that this recall for active handling had been completed in 2010. I asked them to please verify this as I had a headlight recall to do anyways and scheduled an appointment. Long story short... the service adviser told me that the previous repair had failed and that it needed to be done again. He then tells me that they do not have to fix my car because they already repaired it back in 2010 and that it would be up to me to cover the cost. After trying for over a week to convince them to do the right thing, I gave up and paid them for the repair. Im very worried that this will also not hold up. If this repair failed in the past, who is to say that it wont happen again, and this time it could cause a crash, even death. Please help, someone has to hold these people accountable.

I was driving my car in a business section of town, I stopped at a stop light and made a right hand turn on red as the car straighten out I accelerated and the right front wheel locked up causing me to loose control hitting the curb and almost got rear ended. A message on my information display said service traction control. I put the car in park and turned off ignition then restarted message was gone and the brakes released. Thank goodness no one was injured. I'm afraid to drive this car.

Service active handling came on as I touched the brakes. Car pulled to the right. Trying to stay out of the right lane I applied the brakes harder the car jerked to the right. Seems the harder brakes were applied the harder to the right it pulled.

I was nearly involved in 2 accidents in the past week and I no longer feel safe driving my car. I have a 2005 Chevy Corvette which has very low mileage on it (~42,000) for how old it is. The problem I am experiencing exactly matches a recall listed for 2005 Chevy Corvettes however because my VIN number does not list that recall Chevy refuses to honor it. I was switching lanes in the city and the car locked the steering wheel, applied the breaks, did does not let me accelerate such that I was stuck in the middle of two lane and a car in the lane I was trying to change into nearly hit me and had to swerve around me. 2. I pulled out of the grocery store parking lot and the car did the same thing (locked the steering wheel /applied the breaks/reduced throttle). Oncoming traffic turning onto the street once again nearly hit me as I could not accelerate or move the car without restarting it. This has also happened a few times to me while in the parking lot. The message, "service active handling system" appears on the dashboard when this happens. I would like to go on record stating that this is a problem in case future problem causes an accident.

I got in my vehicle, tried starting it and received a message on my dash screen that said, service column lock, thought I had a low battery, I removed the battery had it checked and was told that my battery was in good condition. After doing a bit of research I found out that I'm not the only one who has that problem, there is a large community of Corvette owners that have the same issue, we all ask the same question, why does GM not want to do a recall to correct the problem?

I purchased my 2005 Corvette C6 convertible used last year. The service active handling light and message comes up often when I drive the car. The code goes away if I turn the car on and off. If I hit a bump in the road the service active handling comes on again. I have not noticed any handling issues. I read the Corvette forum and a thread sent me to this site. Is there a recall that GM should have fixed on my Corvette" if yes, will the recall hold up considering the age of the vehicle" please advise how I should proceed. Turned the steering wheel completely. "service stability control" message appeared. Brakes applied automatically and pulled hard to the right. I could not steer. Turned car off the middle of the street. Car was "normal" until the steering wheel get turned completely. Scared it will happen at highway speeds.

Accelerated quickly to 35 mph and when I reached the end of the block I attempted to slow and make a right hand turn. At that time I got a warning to check the charging system and noticed I had no power steering. Managed to muscle the wheel to complete the turn (had it been my wife there is no way she would have been able to turn the wheel) and continue slowly down the street to my driveway where I again muscled the car into the driveway. Discovered that the motor was running but the serpentine belt was not moving. Thus no alternator, power steering etc. I had my independent mechanic check it out, discovered that the bolt that holds the harmonic balancer pulley on the crank shaft stripped and the crank shaft was turning and not moving the pulley. He called the dealership to inquire about the parts and they said they have plenty in stock. He thought this was surprising and that it was not a special order part. The service manager told him that they have had a number of similar incidents. Both my mechanic and I think this should qualify for some type of recall if it is happening with frequency. Obviously some kind of design flaw and/or material flaw, plus they didn't key the pulley so if the bolt strips you would not loose the power steering, etc. If this had happened at high speed or during the action of turning I believe a serious accident and/or injury could have occurred. Cost of the parts and repair were $2300.

I was making a right turn into my neighborhood at approx. 20 mph when right front brake locked up and vehicle swerved to the right. Vehicle would lock up every time I tried to go therefore I had to cut ignition off and restart. This has occurred now three times and each time the brakes locked up and vehicle swerved to the right each time and would not go! I was traveling at a low rate of speed on each occurrence and was making a right turn on each occurrence. We took the car to youman's chevolet in macon, ga after the first incident and the charges to investigate the problem were going to be so outlandish that we did not pursue. They did not even consider checking to see if there could be a recall on this problem or any other problems we have gone to them with during the last seven years. At that point, we went to a car repair place that we use frequently on all of our vehicles and have a good relationship with. They ran a diagnostic test on the car to check for an error code on the computer but nothing showed up. The technician said that it has not done this enough times to register the problem yet. Since that time, we generally drive with the traction system off when driving in town as it is somewhat scary when the situation occurs. This has not happened to date when the traction system is off and has also not happened when traveling at a higher rate of speed.
