Every time I fill the gas tank and the I start the Corvette, the dash starts beeping, the gas gauge goes to zero, the "service fuel system" warning comes on and the engine light symbol shows in instrument panel. This remains for approx 10 - 12 starts on car and then it returns to normal and gas gauge shows present level of fuel. I have tried filling close to full and stopping, filling last part of tank very slow, but no matter what, every time I fill gas tank the fuel system indicators malfunction. Forums online say to use techron from chevron to clean fuel system and have tried others for several years and still have problem.

Recently bought a use 2008 Corvette. Went to dealership to pick up and as I approached vehicle a very strong odor was emitting from the vehicle and once I opened the door the order was strongly present inside also. I originally figured that the salesman had over filled the tank since he said he would fill the vehicle with gas as part of the sale. The odor continued for several days, even as the gas was used. I drove the vehicle and tried several refills (ensuring not to top off) but the odor is still present. No matter the volume of gas in the tank the strong odor of gasoline is present outside and inside. Research on the internet revealed numerous complaints of the same problem from other owners of that model (C6) indicating a problem with a defective fuel line (elbow on the top of the drivers side gas tank coming from the fuel delivery system and associated seals/gaskets). There is even a youtube video by an owner showing the problem and his personal repair of the defect. I saw that the repair can cost an owner upwards of $4K dollars. Since this defect is so prevalent and obviously not something that can be caused by owners negligence, these vehicles should be recalled by the manufacturer and repaired. This condition is a fire hazard and should be looked at immediately.

I began to notice a strong gasoline smell next to my rear driver's side of my 2008 Chevy Corvette coupe. I just did a search online and found numerous others with the same complaint for the same model. Seems the fuel tank leaks after cracks develop.

I have written before on this problem. Do you folks ever acknowledge receipt of a complaint. The car has a strong smell of gasoline until the tank is half empty. This is a large problem affecting many Corvette owners and the fumes are very bad inside and outside the car. There was no date of incident and it did not arise from any accident.

Due to a cracked fitting on top of the drivers side fuel pump, fuel is sprayed out and some pools on top of the tank. In the morning there is a strong smell of fuel inside and outside of the car. This would not normally be an issue on most cars, but because the fuel tanks are so hard to remove and expensive to repair the fuel pump is a $2,000 or more repair because transmission must be removed from the car to get to the fuel pump. On a related note GM has a really bad problem with the fuel level sensors going bad at low mileage. This sends an error code and a owner cannot pass a bi annual smog check until they pay the large sum of money to get the fuel level sensors replaced, once again having to drop the transmission to drop the fuel tank to replace a fifty dollar part cost around two thousand dollars. So my complaint is that the epa or federal and state smog laws and the error code, make the owner do the repair, to the fuel level sensor although it really does not affect the emissions of the engine, while it is perfectly fine to drive around with gas spilling out while driving. This is a serious environmental issue on top of the obvious safety issue that GM does not want to be accountable for... this needs to be fixed for all Corvette with the low mileage leaking fuel pump and the owners should not be the ones at fault...

Started noticing a strong smell of gas a few weeks ago in my garage where I park my car. I thought maybe it was lawn equipment, or my motor bike. I took all those out one at a time over night, and still noticed the smell. Left my car out over night, no smell, put back in the garage, and the smell came back! fills the whole garage and house after about 12 hours!!! in searching the Corvette forums, it appears that many others are having this problem. It appears to be the fuel pump where the fuel line hooks up, gets small hair line cracks. This is obviously a huge fire hazard!

Strong gasoline fuel smell when vehicle was parked inside enclosed garage. Smell greatest after a recent fill-up. Dealer did a smoke test and cursory visual check of fuel tanks without finding clear evidence of a vapor or liquid leak. Finally on the third visit to the dealership, dealer was instructed to remove both fuel tanks from the car for a detailed inspection. Driver side tank fuel pump was found to have a cracked liquid fuel line fitting requiring replacement of the fuel pump.

The crossover pipe between the two fuel tanks started leaking fuel. This caused a strong odor of fuel to happen inside the garage and inside the car itself. Fuel also splashed on various parts under the car. This resulted in a possible unsafe condition.

My 2008 C6 Corvette has a problem with a fuel smell coming from car when I fill the tank. I parked the car in the garage after a refill one evening. My wife returned home from work a couple of hours later and when she opened the garaged she was overwhelmed by the gas fumes, afterwards I parked my car outside of the garage. I took my car to the Chevy dealership for a diagnostic test and they informed me that I had a leaking fuel pump and I needed to replace the pump as well as the left fuel tank (repair cost estimate $2900). The mechanic stated that he'd changed several of pumps on C6 Corvettes in the past. So I asked him if this was such a frequent occurrence, was Chevrolet aware of the this safety issue. This was the response " I cannot answer that question sir". I truly believe this a safety defect that may cause someone their life one day. Either with someone parking the car in the garage in the fumes may cause the hot heater to ignite the fumes or it leaks down onto an hot exhaust when driving the vehicle.

I began to notice a was smelling fuel in my car. As it got worse I went to grapevine Chevy in grapevine, tx. They did a smoke test and found a leak in the drivers side fuel tank. Initially they believed the tank was cracked but they would not cover the repairs citing a non-warranty issue. Well after the leaking getting progressively worse to the point you could smell it inside the car while driving so I decided to fix it myself. When I removed the tank I found the fuel pump seals ruptured. I replace the thing and problem solved. GM never did anything at all to correct the issue.
