First off this is my wife's car and I have to deal with ALL the ramifications of the problem so I'm not happy from the get-go! She first reported this problem to me a few weeks ago and I saw it firsthand yesterday. Initially she used the remote starter to warm up the car on a 40° day, and when she got in it to drive there was no heat output. I found some information that suggested slow driving, around town trips and lower speeds could cause this to occur. After a re-start she had decent heat so the problem "went away" for a while.

Fast forward to yesterday, a 28° winter day when I used the car on a local trip to warm it up before we going to use it for a longer trip. Once the engine heated up (verified the ECT with my scanner), I had no heat from the dash vents. The coolant temp gauge indicated normal operating temperature, the coolant level was full when the overflow reservoir was checked, and there were no restrictions in front of the radiator.

Toggling the blend door positions and hot-cold temperature controls made no difference, and when I was just abut to jump on the parkway to get the car up to highway speeds I felt heat from the dash vents. The car had good heat all day after that.

There are no TSB's reported for this situation and I was told that GM has issued PI (Preliminary Information) on this condition with no fix recommended.
