I bought my car used in 2015. Within a year after the thermostat housing went bad. I have had to replace it every year since. It continues to have a slow water leak but mechanic says this is common for these cars.

I AM THE ONLY DRIVER AND OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. I HAD A COMPANY CAR SO I ONLY USED THIS CAR ON WEEKENDS, THANK GOD OR I WOULD OF BLOWN UP THE ENGINE YEARS AGO IF I HAD TO RELY ON THIS VEHICLE TO GET ME TO WORK. IT ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE LEAKING SOME WHERE. I HAD THE CAR LESS THAN A YEAR IN THE FREEZING NEAR ZERO DEGREE DAY IN BUFFALO NY, I HAD THE HEATER BLASTING BUT DUE TO THE LEAK THE HOT COOLANT COULDN"T CIRCULATE TO DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD WHICH CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.
THE FOLLOWING MONTHS I MISSED TIME OFF FROM WORK DUE TO THE ANTIFREEZE WOULD NUMB MY FOREHEAD FROM BREATHING IT IN ON THE WAY TO WORK. I ACTUALLY WENT TO THE VA EMERGENCY ROOM A COUPLE TIMES THINKING I WAS HAVING A STROKE. I FORGOT THE CAR WAS UNDR WARRANTY AND HAD A MECHANIC REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT WITH HOUSING $450. ONLY TO HAVE IT FAIL A YEAR LATER. I AM WORKING ON THE COOLING SYSTEM EVERY YEAR FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS. SOMETIMES WHEN IT WASN'T LEAKING I GET A CHECK ENGINE LINE, WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE A BAD WIRING HARNESS TO THE THERMOSTAT, WHICH I THINK ALSO CAUSES THE FAN TO RUN AT HIGH SPEED. NOW LATELY I HAVE ANOTHER LEAK AND A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BECAUSE OF LEAN EVAPE SENSOR CODE DUE TO THE VACUUM LINE RUNNING OUT OF THE TOP OF THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING HAS A SMALL LEAK.
WHAT KILLS ME IS CHEVY SELLS THESE CARS FOR OVER $20,000 AND THEY PUT A CHEAP $3 PLASTIC THERMOSTAT HOUSING ON THEM THAT MOUNTS YOUR MAIN PART OF YOUR COOLING SYSTEM TO A SUPER HOT ENGINE BLOCK.. YEA, TO TOP IT OFF THE THERMOSTAT IS DESIGNED TO "STARTS TO OPEN AT 221 DEGREES FARIENHEIT". WHICH MEANS THE COOLANT IS BOILING AT 212 IF WATER. THE THERMOSTAT DOESN'T COMPLETELY OPEN TIL 240 DEGREES AND THEY COSIDER THAT NORMAL! NOT FOR LONG, SO IF YOU WERE NIEVE OF THE PENDING DETERMENTAL DAMAGE OF OVERHEATING, YOU CAN EASILY BLOW YOUR ENGINE IN 5 SECONDS IF YOUR CAR LEAKS AND YOUR TEMP WILL SKYROCKET.
THEY SHOULD NEVER DESIGN AN ENGINE THAT HAS A NORMAL OPERATION OF UP TO 240. THERE IS NO SAFETY BARRIER IF SOMETHING IS WRONG!!!!!! IT MAKES ME SICK WHEN YOU CONSIDER ALL THETHOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS THAT LOST THEIR ENGINE LIFE PREMATURELY DUE TO RUNNING HOT.
