This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Chevrolet dealer.
Last year April 2017, my 2013 Chevrolet Cruze was at 60,000 miles when it started rattling really loud, became sluggish almost not going. I had it towed to the dealer and they could not figure out for the longest what the problem was. After 3 weeks they ended up rebuilding the engine. The car was only 4 years old. I have had so any problems with this car is ridiculous. I got a car note because i was sick of car malfunctions and i have had even more with this Chevy. My water pump was the first to go in 2017. Now the thermostat housing was leaking antifreeze. And now the engine is sluggish and my engine light came on after it is out of warranty.

I HAVE DONE ALL THE OIL CHANGES AND REPLACED THE TIMING BELT CHANGED AT 100,000 MILES. THE NOISE STARTED FROM ONE DAY TO ANOTHER. IF I TAKE TO A DEALER OR REPAIR SHOP, THEY ARE GOING TO SAY IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. HOW MANY CRUZES ARE OUT THERE WITH 100,000 MILES AND ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM?

The car has this rattling that can be described in most cases as a diesel engine. Eventually it gets real loud and sounds like grinding clicking sound similar to the sound of the spinning wheel on Wheel of Fortune.
At that point the car runs sluggish or jerks as it tries to go faster at which the service engine light comes on. I was told the code on it indicates a knock control sensor error. After a couple of start ups, the sound and engine problems disappear and the light remains off until the next two or three weeks when the car sounds bad. Like I said, its a thing that seems to get real bad then goes away for a day or two then slowly comes back. Also, the smell of burnt oil can be smelled. Oil change people haven't indicated anything. When I take it to mechanics, they say they can't hear anything. Mostly because the car decides not to make the noise when I take it to them.
