I got the car October 23, 23, October 31, 23 engine light came on. After taking it in to be checked found out the catalytic converter was the issue December 1,2023 they finally got the parts in (first time they ordered the fuel sensors instead of the oxygen sensors). Drove the thing for a couple days and the engine light came on again, ran diagnostics and found out the P0420 sensor wasn't working. Back to the shop we go, they found out it was also the alternator. They fixed it, drove home, parked it then got up today (January 31, 2024) and the engine said "good morning I'm still here". I've had lemons before but this car has out beat them. I have made 6 payments on it but haven't licensed it yet, figure why bother when it's about to die. I know when you buy a used car that you're getting someone elses lemon but dang I didn't expect to make lemonade so soon. The dealership has been paying all the repairs so can't complain about them but I'm really sick of seeing their mechanic.

Cruze LT 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 51,500 miles

My new car! 13k miles and only $13k... If only the price went up as the miles did! Anyways around 51,000 miles I got the good ol' yellow glare in my dash telling me to check my engine. How convenient. I drove to the AutoZone and got the free diagnosis. P0496 was the code. After a quick YouTube lookup I got the $50 part and replaced it myself since it is an accessible part! I drove it around a while and boom check engine light comes back on. Hmm maybe it was a faulty part? I thought to myself.

I go back to AutoZone (life time warranty) and get the new part. Go into the lot and fix it again. Drive around for a bit and check engine light comes back on. Now I think to myself I watched the wrong YouTube video and installed it wrong. Nope - they all say the same thing. What in the flibbering giblets is going on?! A constant battle between myself and that dang yellow light in my dashboard. I go back and the guy behind the counter mutters under his breath "Chevy Cruzes are POS".

That's when I leave and go to my mechanic since it was due for inspection anyways. He checked it out and said my turbo was under boosted which would be a bit of work to see where the system was failing. He told me it could cost around 3 or 4 thousand dollars to fix. Not to mention I also had a coolant leak, needed a new battery and needed new tires. Didn't think I would have to trade my 51,000 mile car in so early but it's probably in my best interest.

  • 100,000 miles

At around 100,000 miles, I was driving on the freeway and had to stab the accelerator to get out of harm’s way. I noticed the car didn’t respond like I thought it should, and looked at the dash to see the Check Engine Light set. Got home and hooked up to my code scanner, saw the dreaded P0299 turbo underboost code. I took it to the dealer thinking I was still under an extended warranty, not realizing it had expired.

They wanted $2160 to replace the whole assembly: the turbo and exhaust manifold are cast as one piece, so it all had to be replaced, along with a a bunch of oil and coolant supply/return hoses. Considering we had just had about $3500 worth of service done two years prior (fortunately under warranty), and that the auto trans on these cars are a common failure point, I decided to sacrifice it to the AutoNation gods. I guess it was a reliable car, but I really think cars should last more than 100k miles before needing service that’s roughly equivalent to their value. I want to love GM, but this kind of crap is so common with them.

Cruze LT 1.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

Well-maintained, 40,000 miles, my water pump failed. My oil pan gasket blew, my cam shaft seal blew, along with the PCV. Then a month later, the engine control module failed (not warrantied). I got it back from that repair today to have it stall twice in heavy traffic. Additionally, the module fowled the spark plugs, this requiring a tune up.

For those who do not know, Chevy bought a Daewoo from Korea and used generic glue to stick a Chevy emblem on this. This car is a lemon and GM should be ashamed, if not sued. This is a horrible car and from what I understand, a gift that keeps giving in the repair department.

Stick with a Subaru or Mazda; don't consider this one (unless you want to buy mine).

Update from May 12, 2019: At 44,000 miles, after the water pump, cam gasket, pcv gasket, oil pan gasket, O ring on dipstick blowing oil, blown rear speaker, and busted front strut, the engine control module went, just out of warranty, with an $800 bill. All this at 45,000 miles. GM tricked me by selling me a Korean car that couldn't even make it on their own here (Daiwoo or however the f its spelled). Get out of this POS while you can; its a gift that keeps giving. Oh, and they replaced motor gaskets with "poxy," glue, to save money. They blow every 40K. What you read in the forums is true and pretty much right on time for the failures.

Check engine light came on and car would run rough at idle and make a whistling sound. Quick internet search revealed the PCV disk built into cam cover and entire cover has to be replaced. Went to dealer and said it would be $105 to diagnose, tried to ask question and Ursula just repeated it would be $105.00 fee and did I want to make appointment. Told her I would make one on the internet. After getting home decided to look up part online.

I'm a handy guy and for $61.00 for genuine GM part, and about an hour of my time I could fix myself and save $44.00 plus not be inconvenienced by making appointment and not having my car for the day. While I was at it replaced the spark plugs, so my total after rebates was $77.00. Still less than their diagnostic fee. According to internet Cam cover and PCV disk need to be replaced between 40,000 and 85,000 miles. I was iffy on 5 year/100,000 mile warranty.

Cruze LT 1.4L Turbo Engine

  • Automatic transmission

I got this car last week of July 2018 from the dealership. After a week, the battery gave up. Then first week of September, I smelled of burnt rubber every time I drove it in the morning. Took it to the dealership then they told me there is a problem with the engine coolant and not covered with warranty. It cost me almost 800 bucks just to replace gaskets, seals and a simple pipe. I thought I'll enjoy this car without any glitch.

After 1 week, the engine light came on. I took it to two different shops and good thing they're honest and told me to bring it back to dealership because the problem is catalytic converter. They told me that I'm still covered with warranty since the mileage is at 75k. Btw, I got it at the mileage of 68k.

It seems every month, this car goes to the shop and I spend money more than.a monthly payment for a brand new car. I'm still waiting for the car because the.dealership is not yet done with replacing the cat and oxygen sensor. It's almost 4 days now.. and moreover, I'm bracing myself of what will be the next problem that will come out on December. I'm bracing myself and will keep you posted...I just hope I'm still covered with lemon law.. but no...

Cruze LT 1.4L Turbo

  • Automatic transmission

Second time this has happened to 2014 Cruz with 1.4 liter turbo. First time cam cover replaced after error codes P0106- P015B- P0507- P1101 discovered through diagnostics. Repaired under 100,000 mile warranty. I'm at 97,000 miles so should be covered again. Looking through info this seems like it's not a major design issue and the car dealer basically shrugs it off and has it repaired in less then 1 hr.

Really like this car but this problem upsets me as this is pretty basic design flaw I believe. Also, the driver power seat motor will not bring seat forward, it will move the seat away from the steering wheel which means the motor working.

Update from Jul 2, 2018: Chevy dealership did the scan again and same error codes so same problem. They explained it to me that it's not MAF sensor but sensor under cam cover gets clogged and must be fully replaced along with cam cover. Covered under 100,000 mile main powertrain coverage

Cruze LT

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

I am so sick of this POS Chevy 2014! I bought this piece of junk brand new and it started having major issues at about 55,000 miles on it. It's now in the shop AGAIN. This is the 7th time in just over a year. I've had 2 water pumps replaced, camshaft solenoid replaced, something to do with an oil leak fixed (can't remember what that one was), the supercharge has had issues...... I can't even remember everything I've had it in for. The 2nd water pump was replaced 2 weeks ago, then 3 days later the damn check engine light goes on AGAIN. So - I take it in AGAIN, now it's the camshaft, blah blah blah.... So they "fixed it" yesterday - well I drove to work this morning and guess what - the check engine light is on AGAIN.

Drove it straight to the dealership and they look at me like I'm crazy. I kept the damn car running so they could see it was on and that they can't tell me it wasn't. They looked at me like I have Munch Hausen by Proxy - only w/my car or something. Like I'm getting under the hood and pulling wires out just so I can take it to the "doctor" again.

I am so damn frustrated. I had traded a 2011 Chevy Cruze in on this one in 2014 and the 2011 had major issues too, however I was stupid in thinking that they must've fixed those issues - right? I mean, GM wouldn't keep making POS' after all the recalls and problems people complain about, right??? STUPID ME! I HATE GM AND WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE AGAIN IN MY LIFE.

Cruze 2.0L

SO, I buy this diesel Cruze brand new...Lake Chevrolet....Upon delivery IN THE SHOWROOM, Lake damaged the car before delivery to me, and tried to repair this grey car with purple paint stick....This should have been my clue to run, but I didn't....Since taking delivery, this car, 4 years later, has been in the garage or has had a check engine light on, or has been towed, some 300 to 400 days.

I just picked the car up this past Friday, 5-11-18, and by Saturday noon, the check engine light was on again. After the first 6 or 7 times the check engine light came on, LAKE CHEVROLET charged me 258 dollars to clean electrical leads under the dash, as they said they couldn't duplicate the engine light failure, so they just decided to clean electric leads....Then LAKE CHEVROLET chose to NOT put anything on their computer in regard to repairs for this....WTF.

After the 258 I should have thrown out the window of the car when it runs, the car leaves my wife sit some 200 miles from home, and a 600 dollar tow bill later, I took it to a reputable GM shop SUTLIFF GM, who has worked tirelessly on this car....And where is GM through this whole thing....They have MILITANT REGIONAL REPS call me trying to satiate my feelings of them knowing what it was like to have my wife screaming at me for allowing her to sit for HOURS 200 miles away from our home....Wake up MILITANT REGIONAL REP....YOUR terrible product that you knew was going to be a problem after they hit the road, has crewed me and my family over for the last time....We are suing tomorrow.

These initial diesel Cruze cars had issues....GM knew of these issues, recalled some things, charged us for a million other issues, then just keep expecting us to keep paying for improvements they made on later models when they learned from us the consumer certain facets of this car were junk and unreliable.

Cruze LT 1.4L

I just had an error code P0171. Apparently the valve cover or camshaft cover needed to be replaced. Thank God, this is covered by power train warranty. This error code and fix is a common problem arising from a flaw in the design (all GM cars that have 1.4 turbo engine, like Sonic, Trax, Encore will have this problem). From my research, it will happen again and probably next time, the car will be out of warranty.

Only an untrustworthy company like GM does this to its customers (across models). Once you bought the car, you're responsible for all the built-in troubles. It is amazing that they can get away with it. That's why I'm spreading the word here.

Check Engine light kept coming on and it drove me nuts. I checked the gas cap and then I checked the oil no issues. Then I changed the Air Filter just for the hell of it. Check Engine light was still on so at that point I did not want a giant bill from the sealer. I got an OBD Reader and it was saying it was the Mass Air Flow Sensor, which is big issue with a ton of Cruze owners. I reset the code and drove it and so far so good, That Mass Air Flow Sensor, I hope will someday be a recall but I think more people have to prove it.
