This car is the biggest joke on the market! We have had nothing but issues with this piece of crap. We bought this car so we had a dependable car for me to visit my family that lives 600 miles away and it is less dependable than my car that is 24 years old.

Just about a year ago it was at the dealership having warranty items replaced, neg battery cable because it kept just randomly dying on me, camshaft cover and seals and something else. 2 months later we were back again having to have the negative cable changed yet again. Fast forward no more issues for a while. I started feeling like my shifting problems were happening again as that is what was happening the first time but I blew it off cuz i really did not want to believe it was happening again. That was until it completely stopped shifting again and it was very evident something was wrong, then the engine light came back on.

The car... has 61000 miles on it... power train warranty ended 1000 miles ago. I took it in to the dealership again and Turbo Charger is under-boosting, more leaks in my camshaft seals and oil pump is leaking. i was told the water pump which is leaking as well is covered by warranty somehow. I was also told that it would be ok to drive the car with turbo charger not functioning properly. My dad who was a mechanic for big rigs told me absolutely not! He said I could blow up the engine. So here I sit with this piece of crap in my driveway, unable to be driven with nearly 3000 dollars worth of work needing to be done to it. I can not work as I need my vehicle to work.

I ran into a guy at Autozone and was telling him my car needed 3000 dollars worth of work done to it . he had just mentioned he was a mechanic and his first question was was it a Chevy. Yea how did you know? Second question was was it a Cruze or a Sonic? Like seriously? There are so many issues with these cars that a man that had no info except how much money it was going to cost me to fix it knew exactly what car H had? His wife had a 2014 Sonic that has had nothing but issues as well.

I AM SO FREAKING DONE WITH THIS CAR!!!!! As soon as it is fixed it is being sold. Screw this car!

Cruze Diesel 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 136,702 miles

It started a number of months ago. when it's winter, it never really came up. Summer weather, it comes up after driving for a period of time, 10 minutes+ Typically highway driving.

When I come to a stop after a short to long trip, like at a stop light, it sits idle and then on green, there's a hesitation, nasty thunk and a violent herky jerky transmission engagement and a lunge forward.

I found what helps is to shift the transmission into park for 10 - 20 seconds, whatever the period at a stop light. Take my foot off the gas, sit for a bit, then shift back to drive. It goes back to normal for a while or is less violent.

To me it seems to be a heat thing?

Cruze LT 1.4t

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,500 miles

Took vehicle in on July 7, 2017 to Midway Chevy to diagnose this problem as well as CEL. Dealer said "unable to replicate". The problem is at random and usually in the worst times (pulling out onto busy road). Happens between 2-3 and 3-4. Only happens like every other day or when taking of in manual mode after sitting (yes, I allow my car to warm up for a minute or two before take-off). Waiting for this car to cause me to get into an accident. The problem is known for in other model years as well.

Cruze 2.0L Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,000 miles

downshiftng hard from 4-3 then 3-2

Bought this car because fuel economy is great. I love the car, it runs great and great ride. But not long after having it the transmission started down shifting really hard. So hard it throws me forward out of my seat it's that bad. Took it to the Chevy dealership twice and they kept it for three days each time. Their response was it's fine and normal. Now i'm not stupid at all. I am a mechanic for Roush and work for Ford Motor Company and this is not normal at all. Very disappointed in it now. It has thrown me forward so hard I think I have gotten whiplash from it.

IT DID NOT DO IT THE FIRST 35,749 MILES!!!, IT IS NOT " NORMAL" , IT DID NOT DO IT IN JULY OR AUGUST OR ETC.!!!! GM WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO SELL A NEW CRUZE THAT DONE THIS!!!!! WHEN IT SLAMS INTO GEAR IT SCARES MY WIFE SO BADLY THAT SHE IS AFRAID TO TOUCH THE ACELLERETOR MAKING PEOPLE BEHIND HER BLOW THE HORN AND GET PISSED OFF, SHE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE A 2014 GM WITH 37,000 MILES ON IT!!!! Cruze LX 1.6L

  • Manual transmission
  • 16,147 miles

today I had difficulty changing gears on my Chevrolet cruze. I drove to work with the hazards on , only moving between gear 1 and 2 . I called GM SA customer care line. they called AA to tow my car to GM citi-deep. The manager there Tony calls me to tell me there is no problem with my car. it makes a funny sound when starting it. I am so frustrated with General motors SA. as a woman I feel they just take advantage This a damn new vehicle . I have cried this whole week cause its between taking taxis or troubling people for a lift. GM will not even provide me with a loan vehicle. what kind of service does GMSA offer to its clients??? I travel between Carletonville and Johannesburg , I get home so late on the taxi and yet i'm paying for a car im not using for th purpose I had purchased it for i.e to drive to work comfortably and safely everyday.

Totally Frustrated.
