This is my 2nd Chevy Cruze with a clutch failure. Prior to this I have owned 6 other cars with a standard transmission. Never had a clutch problem before.
My 2012 Chevy Cruze had the clutch completely go on the highway at 38,000 miles, so no warranty. The dealer agreed to put me into a new Cruze lease without paying for the clutch(but I suspect the cost was built in the payments).
My 2016 Chevy Cruze always had a light feel to the clutch. And it sometimes clunked going into 2nd gear as if the clutch weren't depressed. Sure enough at 31,400 miles the clutch felt so light I took it in to be inspected. They said it was worn out and had to be replace. And the warranty did not cover it because a clutch is a wear item.
After speaking to several Chevy and GM customer service people I got no assistance on the repair. In fact I had to pay $850 for them to break the clutch down to see if there was any mechanical failures, in which case it would have been covered by the warranty. But of course they said it was just clutch wear. When I asked if the Cruze had a history of early clutch wear out, the dealer claimed he had only seen 1 other Cruze with a standard transmission, and that, too had a clutch problem. The standard transmission in the Cruze is very rare apparently.
So, now with 7 months left on the lease, I have to pay $1850 for a new clutch.

Thanks for nothing Chevy.
