This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Chevrolet dealer.
I must say I am a bit upset. I just purchased this car in May and have already had the AC go out and my ABS and traction light on my dash are also lighting up... so mad..

When turning the regular air on (before pressing the A/C button) it blows out warm air (to the feet/face) but when the nob to make the air flow to the top of the dashboard/window shield, it turns into COLD A/C air. Once you press the A/C button when in the beginning it wasn't pressed, it turns into warm to HOT air even if the air flows to your feet/face and top of dashboard/window shield.
Also, when we are testing the air to see if it's working properly, a small amount of smoke comes out around the steering wheel. We immediately shut everything off. (this has happened 3 times)

My 2006 Chevy Equinos LS is having what appears to be the most common problem with the faulty air blending door and actuator. The door which is made of plastic has a part that breaks off. The repair seems to require a tremendous amount of labor to remove the dash to reach the broken part for replacement. From
What I've read the parts run around $250. And the labor $800.00. Chevrolet should issue a recall as this is a persistent recurrent problem with many safety ramifications. My vehicle is under 50,000 miles of cautious, cared for driving. In my opinion having to repair an issue that could have been easily avoided by using a stronger part is unacceptable.

Gm should have fixed the'06 Equinox AC system by recall years ago! I just got back from the dealer. Same old problem; one of two fans(go figure) burns out, never to return, and the engine overheats. The rising temp shuts off the ac till everything cools down again.
I have repaired this at an independent for $520, and the local dealer for $830. This time the tag will go to $1000 at the dealership. This time, though an honest service writer told me the real deal: Factory Design Flaw!
A $1000 fix would last awhile then the fan would burn out again and again.
Now what? I can't in good conscience sell it or trade it in. Its a turd in a wet sack! No ac in SE Texas is pretty useless. I can only hope someone with insurance wrecks it.
And Adios to GM products for me and anyone I talk to.

Chevy has literally thousands of customers with this same damn issue. Yet, there is no solution. But I have a solution to the problem.....NEVER BUY CHEVY AGAIN! Listen, I am all about buying American, but not from American crooks. I can't believe they didn't step up to the plate recall the vehicle. There are better alternatives, Ford being one of them. Chevy, I am done with you forever...

My wife and i got a letter last moth from the Chevy corporate office. It stated that there was an issue with the HVAC system / Heater / AC. Well we called them to see if it was a recall or what. They said not really it is a special coverage that falls under the extended warranty. We were furious about that. So I was like why punish the ones who are out of he warranty / Mileage brackets. They basically said sorry but there is nothing we can do about that. was like WTF you mean there s nothing can do bout it. So from this moment on i am so close to hiring an attorney.

Air conditioner works for about 10 to 20 minutes then blows vapor and hot air. If you turn it off appr. 30 mins it will work for a little while and you have to repeat the process.
A REAL PAIN for TEXAS HEAT!
- debbiefor, Mount Vernon, TX, US
The AC works great for about 20 minutes then switches to hot air and the AC freezes over . Vapors start coming out of the vents and then it starts spitting ice. The only way to get cool air again is to turn it off completely for 20-30 minutes to allow it to de-ice. It runs for 20 more minutes and the process starts again. Not optimal for 104 temp degree days and a newborn baby. Freon has been checked and is fine. 2 trips to the Dealer and they can't find the problem. Today is the first I have searched for info regarding the issue and am SHOCKED to see the amount of similar complaints that Chevy has simply chosen to ignore.

This is a series in a long line of complaints. My engine blew a gasket (and not figuratively) and had to replace entire engine! Thank God for the extended warranty. And now the heater is not working and only blows hot air...being a single mom, this is highly inconvenient! I should have bought the Lexus, now I know never to buy Chevy again!

The AC was fixed by replacing the relay for a mere $180. This is only one of the many problems we have experienced.
- Vickie S., Fort Thomas, KY, US
The AC blows hot air which we've determined occurs when we adjust the hot/cold dial so we just leave it on the coldest setting and constantly have to turn it on and off. Major pain...but worse when you're sitting in stand still traffic and it's blowing hot air. Does anyone know what it actually takes to fix the problem?
- skbpetaholic, Seymour, TN, US
Discovered it on a long trip. Had to keep shutting the air off and on so we could get cool air. Once it starts cooling, it gets hot. I should not be having these kinds of problems with a car that only has, now, 40,000 miles on it.

My "dream car" has been a royal pain. First off, I have had 3 key switches put in, the paint on the back bumper was coming off, the cross bars messed up, the mirror was about to fall off, the antenna bracket was broke & the A/C blows out heat. I have only had this vehicle since Christmas of 2006 and I am about to swear off CHEVROLETS forever!!!!!!!
