There is a fuel leak from the seal around the fuel pump on the top of the gas tank. This failure has been reported in several other customer vehicles of the same make/model/year. Fuel will pool up on top of the tank and drip down the side and onto the frame and exhaust pipes creating a risk of fire/explosion.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle emitted a strong odor of fuel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that a fuel line coming from the fuel pump to the engine was cracked. As a result, fuel would leak and rest near the reservoir next to the tank. This failure created a fire hazard. The contact also stated that the dealer was unable to locate the leak in the same way the mechanic was able to. The failure and current mileages were 84,000. The consumer was informed there was a leak coming from the filler neck and the gas tank would need to be replaced. Updated 04/09/12
