Equinox LS 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 160,000 miles

Steering started acting odd. Intermittently binding up when turning. Repair shop ran all diagnostics to determine problem, diagnostics were clean and could not find problem. Drive it away from repair shop to have the same thing happen. Back to repair shop. Had it for several days before they were able to determine it is the steering gear which needs replacement. Appears to be yet another common and frequent problem with this make and model and year vehicle. I have always been a GM fan, but I am so turned off by this vehicle and GM's lack of response to the known and recurrent problems that I will never buy another GM make vehicle.

Equinox LTZ 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 67,108 miles

Vehicle has regular non-electric power steering. Steering wheel became very hard to turn and unpredictable. Sometimes it felt like it fixed itself for a short distance but problem returned after few minutes.Took to dealer who diagnosed the problem. Service person advised it would take a week for part to arrive, it arrived in 3 days, mechanic replaced intermediate steering shaft assembly joint on bottom end of shaft, seized up.

Rented a vehicle for a week because we did not feel comfortable driving with this problem.
