Tamata recall my 2012 Chevy Equinox windshield wipers went out as I was driving on backroads to work with low lighting and in a storm when my windshield wipers went out as I turned the speed up because it began to rain a lot more. The wiper just swung all the way up and off the windshield and would no longer work. I pulled over into closest neighborhood I could find and limped my vehicle home as slow as I could trying to see out of my car. Thank god there was no traffic at ;am on my way to work or else I could have easily not been able to see with the lights and the rain with my wipers not working. After seeing a lot of youtube videos on the problem occur info in models from 2010-2016 I felt the need to file a report. The wiper linkages are held together with cheap plastic bushings that will fail instead of using longer lasting hardware like a short bolt and self locking nut to keep this from happening.

While driving at night on the expressway in a rainstorm, the windshield wipers suddenly stopped & got stuck while up, affecting visibility for the driver. The visibility was not only impacted by the wiper stuck in the upright position, but worse because of the rainstorm that we no longer had wipers to help with. It was a scary situation going down the highway at a high rate of speed and suddenly losing visibility because the windshield wipers quit operating. Luckily we were able to safely pull over to the side of the road, trying to get the wipers to work again. We were able to put them down, but they would not operate. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the wiper motor is working but that the wiper transmission had corroded in the ball joints, leading to the wipers becoming inoperable. Furthermore, it was determined that while this issue is recalled in Canada, only the 2013 models are recalled in the usa, though other years and models are also affected.

In a heavy rainstorm, driving on the highway, I turned my windshield wiper speed to max. The wiper's stopped working. I lost complete visibility. I could hear the motor for the wipers moving but nothing worked. In an incredible panic, I tried to turn them on/off, to no avail. This incredibly dangerous situation was handled at speeds of 50 mph in the fast lane. I had to navigate, with no visibility, over three lanes of rush hour traffic looking out my back window - as the only way to judge where I was on the road in a heavy downpour. The repair cost me $368. I've done my research and I'm shocked to see so many similar complaints. I thank my lucky stars that this was the only day I commuted without my kids. Why is there a recall to fix this in Canada and not here? Chevy needs to recognize this problem and possible save lives with a recall, immediately. Will not buy another Chevy product.

Windshield wipers suddenly stopped working and were stuck in the upright position while driving on a city street during a heavy rainstorm. Had to carefully drive to where I could get this repaired. This is definitely a safety issue. Hoping it was only a burned out fuse, unfortunately it was the wiper transmission that went out. The replacement and labor cost was $364.31.

Driving on a busy hwy in a heavy rain storm and the wipers on high when they suddenly stopped working. Extremely dangerous situation. Unable to even see the edge of the road. While highway driving during a thunderstorm, the windshield wipers running on the medium setting suddenly stopped functioning, causing viability loss. This made it unsafe to continue driving and difficult even changing lanes to pull to the shoulder. Motor was still functioning. Faulty part is the windshield wiper transmission. Entire transmission was replaced. Again today, during a flash flood warning rainstorm, wiper transmission failed while highway driving with wipers on high setting causing a complete visibility loss. Almost caused an accident attempting to safely pull out of lanes of traffic. Research indicating Chevrolet has recalled this part in Canada and replaced but not in the

Windshield wiper transmission broke. This is the 4th time since we got the car for my daughter. We will be replacing it again less than 3 months from the last time we replaced this part. This problem has become very costly and very unsafe for my daughter and grandson. My daughter was on her way home from work in the bad ice storm in Michigan on 04/15/2018 and the wiper transmission broke for the 4th time. Very unsafe and needs to be addressed by GM asap. I am tired of replacing this part every 3 to 4 months

There is currently a recall for wiper transmission corrosion which could cause the wipers to fail unexpectedly. The recall in Canada only is for years 2010-2017 (25300-03: Safety recall ' front wiper transmission corrosion failure (Canada only) ' 2010-2017 Chevrolet Equinox & GMC terrain). There is also one in the us but it does not cover 2012, the year of my Equinox (25302-01: Safety recall ' front wiper transmission corrosion failure (usa only) ' 2013 Chevrolet Equinox & GMC terrain). My wipers recently failed due to this very issue on 4/2/2018 and the us recall should expand to cover the same years as the Canadian recall. The car was thankfully in the process of going through pa state inspection and the wipers failed during a test drive.

2012 Chevy Equinox was making a knocking noise took it to my mechanic. It was out of oil before my oil change was due. I had 1000 miles left before my oil change. This is the second time this has happened within 6 months. Contacted GMC today got S case number but have to wait for it to happen again and take it to a GMC dealer for a diagnostic test. Then today during a snow storm my windshield wipers just stopped working it was a mess trying to get home making frequent stops because of visibility.GMC said there are no recall for that or the oil consumption but I see so many complaints online about all these issues. Not to add the paint in the inside of the car doors and trunk doors are rusting. This is my last GMC car going back to Honda.

Equinox

  • 125,000 miles
On May 21, 2017 while driving straing down I-94 at 70mph in downpour the bushing on my windshield wiper transmission gave way, causing my windshield wipers to malfunction (windshield wiper arms flew off to the side of my car, windshield wipers would not engage in movement). My visibility was impaired requiring me to carefully navigate to the shoulder of the road (husband & 2 small children as passengers). I had to wait until the rain stopped to safely drive. My husband attempted to repair the problem by replacing it with a bushing from autozone. Unfortunately, the replacement bushing also gave way & on Friday, October 6, 2017 the event occurred again while driving 55mph on M-106. Again, I had to pull of to the side of the road to wait for the rain to clear. We had service repair done at norm's automotive in South lyon where he replaced the entire transmission assembly ($400 in repairs). There is a recall on this same issue in Canada, including Ontario, with a work around that entails plugging a drain hole & drilling a new drain hole above the current location to prevent inclement whether from corroding the bushing on the windshield wiper transmission. General Motors has determined that this issue is not "statistically significant" in Michigan.

While driving he vehicle in a pouring rain the wipers stopped working and I had to swerve off the road because I was totally blinded by the rain and couldn't see. The problem was the wiper linkage transmission and it cost over $300 to replace. This part was recalled on 2011 and 2013 equinoxes and not 2012. The piece had corroded and part had fell off. Please report this to Chevy and recall for the 2012's please. Very harrowing event when the wipers stopped.
