My family and I were driving home from the shore on New Years Day, when my car started to hesitate. I managed to pull off the road into a parking lot to investigate the problem. There was oil under and all over the back of my car. We were 80 miles from home and suck on the side of the road for 2 hours for a tow truck.
The dealer said the rear main seal blow out, due to a frozen PCV. I would told that this shouldn't have happened and Chevy the dealer was going to fight with corporate for reimbursement. $3,000.00 out-of-pocket it cost me. I was initially told that the problem would be covered under warranty - after running my VIN number - it turns out my vehicle/VIN was not included in the warranty. It's been almost a year and no one has reached out with an update.
My service rep told me that there were reports of this happening to other customers in the area. Due to the severe cold, the PCV froze causing a backing up - which eventually cause the blow out. In addition, since purchasing my Equinox on 06/15 - there has been nothing but problem with oil consumption/leaks. The CAM shaft was also replaced 6 moths after my purchase. All I am asking is for reimbursement from Chevy. I have read countless complainants regarding similar issues. Someone needs to step up and address the problem.
