Safety Complaint -?" Sudden Oil Loss and Engine Failure -?" 2014 Chevy Equinox Hello, I am reporting a serious safety issue involving my 2014 Chevrolet Equinox with the 2.4L Ecotec engine. My vehicle began consuming oil at an abnormal rate without any dashboard warnings in early 2025. The oil level would drop dangerously low between regular oil changes, and the problem escalated quickly. I had to carry oil and a funnel at all times to avoid engine damage. Despite proper maintenance, the engine failed and required replacement on March 27, 2025, at a cost of $11,879.28. The replacement engine includes a 3-?'year or 100,000-?'mile warranty, but it is the same Ecotec design. Approximately one month after the replacement engine was installed, I experienced another incident requiring service. This occurred despite the engine being brand new and under warranty, raising concerns that the defect may still be present and that the vehicle may remain at risk of sudden failure. This sudden oil loss and subsequent incident created a safety hazard, as the engine could have seized while driving. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can track the defect and evaluate whether further investigation or recall expansion is needed.

There are several 2010-2014 Equinox that are having same problem. The oil smells like gas, and it burns through 4 quarts of oil before I hit 3,000 miles. I see that in 2019 there was a class action lawsuit against Chevy for putting the wrong pistons and O-rings in the 2010 through 2014 Chevy equinox 4 cylinder models. I believ this is the issue and what is causing the burning oil issue for my vehicle. I have never recieved any recall for this. Please advise on what to do next to rectify this issue.

The temperature sensor keeps breaking down after using the car under normal conditions for 1-?"2 months of use. I have changed it a few times, as well as the electrical harnesses and connectors, and the problem persists.

Service Stabilitrak, Power Steering light, Check Engine light. Door locks lock and unlock continuously. Randomly has No acceleration, causes jolting at a low speed. Available for inspection asap. The code -??UO101-?? comes up in a diagnostic test. Overall, the car basically shuts down while driving at no specific speed. Safety of myself and others is at risk because this can cause an accident resulting in being rear ended/collision with car and other vehicles as it randomly happens when driving. I took my car to the dealership on 3/5/25 and expressed this issue and they could not diagnose it as it was not physically happening after I dropped it off to them. They had the car for 4 days and couldn-??t duplicate the issue. They gave back the car and told me there was no issue with the vehicle and it is continuing to happen again. They told me to get proof of the incident on video when it happens again. (I was able to get a video today 4/3/25) There is no warning before this event happens. It will go away and not happen for a few days and then the next day it is not drivable. I am concerned for the safety of myself and others and would like to find the cause of this once and for all. I-??d like for the dealership to not send me away without a reason why this is happening or fixing my vehicle.

started the car.i noticed the their was no door chime with the door open, no radio, radio display dear, no seat belt warning chime, no rear backup display camera. i drove car down to corner stopped and made right turn and everything was all right, everything worked OK. this morning got into the car and no door chime, no seat belt chime no radio or display no back up camera, no on star. called my friend over and he checked the fuses.he checked fuse #9 radio fuse OK except for little tarnish on legs, checked display fuse #15 checked OK tarnish on fuse legs, checked the amplifier fuse #31 checked OK. but he replaced the fuses anyway, with new fuses. started car same problem as above o difference, one can drive the car lights, turn signal bulbs

The camshaft sensors have been replaced when the code POoo14 made the engine light Activate. I'm worried that the timing chain could possibly cause an accident if it seizes the engine. I have under 73,000 miles on a 2014 Chevy equinox. Please advise Thank you

I was driving and the vehicle suddenly seemed sluggish. A warning came on the dash stating low oil pressure and the car began shaking wildly. I quickly pulled over and a warning to turn the engine off appeared and all the dash lights began to illuminate. I turned off the engine and had the car towed. I had it looked at and was told there was no oil in the car (I have regular oil changes) and that a faulty PVC valve was the culprit. I received no warning that the oil was running low in the car. There were never any oil spots in my driveway indicating a leak, this all happened suddenly as I was driving and now my engine is damaged. I-??ve had issues with oil consumption in this vehicle before and in my research it appears this is a common issue with this vehicle make and model and Chevy doesn-??t appear to be interested in rectifying it.

I live in Michigan and my vehicle is a 2014 Chevy Equinox 2.4 liter with 93351 miles on it. Was driving vehicle home when all the dash lights illuminated and vehicle stalled. Towed vehicle to my house, called my mechanic told him what had happened and had him take a look at it. He had found that the rear main oil seal was leaking quite badly. With the recent bad weather we had with temps being quite cold my mechanic did some research and found a service bulletin (14882 special coverage adjustment-plugged pcv orifice in intake manifold) which in turn causes the rear main seal to blow out and start leaking. I reached out to some local dealerships and they claim my vehicle is not covered under that service campaign bulletin according to my VIN although year, make, mode, and engine does. This should very easily be able to become a recall for GM.

On December 23rd, shortly after 530 pm, I remote started the vehicle, 6 min prior, to entering/driving the vehicle. On my way to work, approximately 4 minutes into the drive a woman pulled up next to me. She seemed to be in distress, trying to get my attention. I rolled down the window and she told me -??your car is on fire-?? I quickly pulled over to the side of the road and exited the vehicle. The vehicle was dripping firey liquid. I called 911. And 12 minutes later, when the firefighters arrived, half of the vehicle was engulfed in flames. There were no warning signs. No warning lights. No sudden loss of oil or fuel. Police had the vehicle towed to a junkyard where it still sits. Unfortunately I had liability insurance only. So no claim was filed. I do have a police report and videos/pictures of the vehicle burning.

GM Issue #14882 - Special Coverage Adjustment - Plugged PCV Orifice in Intake Manifold. Causes pressure to build up and then oil leaks and sprays inside of engine. Also burns oil at a faster rate. If not repaired, vehicle's engine could freeze up while driving. Some models have been reported to catch on fire. Problem confirmed by independent service center - they suggested to call Chevy dealer. Chevy dealer stated my VIN not covered under this issue since it is VIN-specific based on where it was manufactured. My vehicle was manufactured at Plant #6 in Canada. This issue is more common in areas that experience cold weather. My incident happened in Missouri after a cold 2021-2022 winter season. Called GM North America Customer Assistance Center for Chevy vehicles and they also said my vehicle is not covered for this issue based on the VIN. My vehicle is at the 118,000 mile mark and this special coverage adjustment ends at 120,000 miles. I have no choice but to have the repairs made at my expense because I cannot risk my engine failing on the highway to/from work in a dangerous part of the city. There were no warning lamps. I just noticed a lot of oil on my garage floor and took it to a service center.

My link infotainment center glitches goes black, reverse camera stays on while driving forward. Navigation doesn-??t work. Cant turn radio up or down because screen doesn-??t respond to touch until it decides to then I-??ll catch up every button touched. Freezes and then just shuts down and comes back on when it wants. Radio audio cuts off whenever it wants as well.

Engine oil consumption. Vehicle is consuming 4 quarts of oil per week. This results in a loud vehicle, and shaking during a stop. There is no leak in the oil canister, for I have spent $1100 on it recently. The engine is burning the oil at an unreasonable rate.
