My husband was driving my 3 year old grandson and daughter from Rome NY to Oswego NY about a hour drive using the thruway. They heard a pop and the check engine light came on. He immediately pulled off the road to a safe place and discovered a huge puddle of oil. My daughter was able to get a hold of her husband to come and pick them up and bring them oil.
The temperature was very cold that day with snow and wind blowing. My grandson became very cold while waiting for his father despite wearing warm clothes. It took an additional 7 quarts of oil to get the car to a shop. The shop notified me that this problem is quite common on GM vehicles especially in cold weather climates, including the make, model and year of my vehicle. When the technician looked at the vehicle the seal was completely ruined and water leaked out, before finding sludge. The initial estimate is over 1500 dollars and could be more.
A service bulletin was sent to dealers as early as February 2019 and an update this year. GM chooses to ignore this problem and refuses to do a recall. I will gladly join a class action suit to solve this problem have GM pay for the repairs and compensate me for the loss of vehicle, the stress of having my vehicle repaired 9 days before Christmas.

The PVC is a known issue that many states and countries have filed lawsuits on. When we went to GM they stated it is not covered. The "fix" was to drill a bigger hole! The part is only $35 but has 15 hours of labor to get to the location of the value to fix it.

Have a 2017 Chevy Equinox with under 100,000 miles with a rear main seal leak due to frozen PVC. I have a full warranty on the vehicle up to 120,000 miles but they aren't paying for it because they don't consider this a mechanical failure rather a weather failure! There was a Bulletin out on this particular problem on my vehicle and that is another reason they are refusing to pay. I feel like Chevy didn't inform me of the necessary steps to avoid this!
