Oil guzzling machine. From what I read Chevy knows there is a problem with the 2.4 liter engine but hasn’t addressed it in the 2017 models. The car belongs to my mother who lives on a fixed income and can’t afford this much oil consumption. Also already needs a timing chain.

I purchased a 2017 Chevy Equinox on 02/22/2019. When purchased, the dealer/salesman actually started the car before we went out to test drive it. So...of course I did not hear the ticking in the engine. I bought the car used with about 42,500 miles on it. I really hope I don't have any problems with this vehicle. I can't afford a fix like that. However, it is still under warranty. I owned a 2012 chevy cruze and that car also had a ticking in the engine when it first starts. That car ended up with a major oil leak. I hope the chevy company reaches out to us and fixes this problem before something really goes wrong with the vehicle. My next purchase may not be a chevy.

Low milage (102200) Chevrolet Equinox, Oil changed every 3K faithfully, engine started rattling on cold start timing chain, guides, all drive gears replaced, tensioners replaced, belt replaced, engine flushed, coolant system flushed, cracked manifold replaced, valve cover with built-in PVC, replaced. All brakes and rotors were replaced at 85,000 miles. I'm 75 years old and an thought this car would serve us well, how WRONG was I.
NEVER AGAIN GENERAL MOTORS, This is the last car I will ever purchase from you!!!!!!!!!!
Update from Mar 6, 2025: Returned to shop (102350 miles) with the same Ticking/Rattling noise and sluggish performance 4/3/25! Now $648.00 later I've had to replace the spark plugs which were fouled out and a New Catalytic Converter. Extremely frustrated!! $4,025.05 in repairs in less than a week on this car.
