I just went through this same thing 2 months ago. My brakes failed, the pedal hard, couldn't stop. Dangerous! Again, it's the Vac brake booster and this time they think it caused damage to my engine. They need to do a thorough inspection, which I can't afford. I am single, I don't have any warranty, it is jeopardizing my job due to back to back car problems being the reason I have missed work. There has to be something that GM can do to fix this problem. I am not even comfortable with continuing to drive this car for fear of an accident. I HAVE to have a car, I paid this car off and expected it to last several more years.

I bought it in 2022, there is clearly a problem with this make and model bc they have recalls for this same issue. However, my car does not come up on the recall list. I don't see how it can't since I am experiencing the same problems as those they recalled! I would like them to replace my car with another car that isn't life threatening to drive. And at the very least that isn't costing me my job and my income! This can't be legal for GM not to take more action and care for their customers. Do I have to die from no brakes or cause someone else's death before they do something? DO NOT BUY A CHEVY EQUINOX!

It was Feb 2025, I was traveling a dangerous grade with narrow two lanes with no room to pull over when my brake pedal suddenly became hard & impossible to stop. I was literally standing on my brake pedal & it didn't budge, did not stop, I nearly hit the car in front of me. I could only pray he moved out of the way. He did move just in the nick of time & I had to coast to a stop. I am I was so scared, I was shaking so bad I couldn't even walk. I had a friend who is a mechanic come get me & my car. The Vac brake booster has went out. The teeth inside were completely broken, thank God I didn't keep driving it bc the prices would have ended up in my engine. It is my only means of transportation, I am single & it caused me to miss several days of work. My warranty was up so I had to incur the costs. I see that there is a recall on my make & model but my car was not on the recall list. Why? This could have killed me or somebody else.

It is now 4/28/2025 & my car is down again for the same thing. I have not been able to make the repairs & I am told it may have caused more damage to other areas, like my engine, & it needs a thorough inspection which costs hundreds of dollars I don't have. I am scared to death I am going to be left without a car. I don't have money to buy a new car, nor can I afford the inspection, & repairs right now. I am also very concerned to continue driving this car for fear it is going to cause an accident which could ultimately end my life or somebody else's due to complete brake failure. I am not sure what I can do to hold GM accountable for this obvious faulty system. Twice in 2 months is insane. I really need some help, it is causing serious problems in all aspects of my life. I need a dependable car, this car is paid off but I won't get anything for it bc GM has produced a death trap. Nobody will buy it, nor would I feel comfortable selling it to another innocent victim, placing their lives at stake.

Second power brake assist pump failure.

Rolling down the freeway and pushed on the brakes and could immediately feel I had NO power brakes. It's like I almost had to use two feet to stop. I immediately drove it to the dealership. Same issue: the power brake pump driven through a mechanical connection to the camshaft.

Three days with a rent a car and I get my car back on the road.
