The car began to show signs by simply being louder when accelerating. Eventually, it was a full blown roar over a few months of getting worse. I attempted to band-aid it with some exhaust header ribbon and wrapped it like a bandage. It got quieter but didn't last long.
If this happens you have two choices. Replace the entire catalytic converter piece which is NOT cheap and if you're having a shop do it, its even more expensive. 600-800 dollars. Or you can cut off the flex pipe and have a new one welded on. The job is a pain in the ass either way but if you can get someone to weld it or you yourself can weld it then I would go that route.
Take the pipe down, cut the flex off, hold the new part in place, hold the old pipe up to the new part and mark it so you can take them both down and weld it on a table. Fit the whole piece back into its place. Keep in mind that you may have to cut the coupling bolts and replace the coupling gasket where the pipe meets the tail pipe in the rear. Don't worry, gasket and bolts are cheap. Good luck!
