I purchased my 2007 HHR in 2008. It is a great little care except for one issue that has become an issue now every time I have to get the oil changed. MY FRONT ROTORS either have to be replaced or turned. Every 5000 miles or so This is terrible. I have went through 4 new rotors and about 12 turns in all, I have lost count, but now on the right rotor it needs it about every oil change. Chevy/GM needs to fix this problem. It sounds like a design flaw. Maybe that is why they quit making them. Really disappointed and want something done by GM. I am tired of having to deal with this. I have never had a rotor turned on my other chevy's, fords, Hyundai, etc. etc. So this is an issue.

My wife and I went to Maggie Valley, NC 6/6/12. We were riding on the Parkway when as I braked going down a mountain, the steering wheel nearly shook out of my hands. I thought I had blown a front tire or maybe somehow broken a belt in the front tire. We pulld over on an overlook and looked at the tires but could see nothing wrong. So we went on. but with every application of the brakes it got worse and worse. We then prayed, kissed good-bye abd CREPT down the mountain and came home.(About 200 miles away) On 6/8/12 I took the HHR (2007 ) to Chevy place in home town. Told them about the problem, they told me without even thinking about it "Sir, the rotors are warped" They turned them, put on new pads and pocketed $206.00 for their troubles.

I wish I would have checked this site sooner about the HHR. It seems that the problems with the braking system on this vehicle is as bad as the shifter/ key stuck in ignition problems.

I bought my HHR new in May of 2007. I needed a good gas mileage car that had cargo space. I take quite a few road trips a year. It is great for those things. The brakes are not great. I now have 72000 miles on my car and I am about to replace my rotors for the 7th time. I talk to the dealership and they tell me that this is not a common problem and they go on to ask me if I ride the brakes. This car is a stick shift. My left foot is not on my brake pedal while I drive. Anyway, it has been extremely frustrating. Now, I replace my rotors every time instead of having them turned. I do this because I work for an auto parts distributor so I get my parts pretty cheap. It is less expensive for me to buy new rotors than taking them to a machine shop and having them turned. I am going to be getting rid of this car as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I still need to drive it so I have to fix it again. I was given a bit of advise from one of my counter guys at work. I will give it a try this time around and see if it helps at all. He told me to try to adjust the rear brake shoes. He says that they are supposed to do it automatically, but Chevy seems to have an issue with this. He told me that it is possible that since the rear shoes may be out of adjustment, all of the braking is falling onto the front causing them to overheat and warp. I will update if it actually works or if it doesn't. Hopefully I will be able to get a new car before this happens again, but since it happens every few months, I doubt it. I'm gonna try to adjust the rear drums and see if that gives longer life to my front rotors. Chevy really needs to address this issue. Nothing makes you less confident in a vehicle than brake problems.

Chevy has a whole bunch of defective rotors on their HHR's. After 3 visits to the dealer, where they turned the rotors twice, they finally replaced them, along with the pads, and a redesigned dust shield. After driving about 4k miles, the rotors get warped and the car shakes violently when braking. A new car should NEVER do that!

They know they have a problem with this issue, as they've redesigned the dust shield, which perhaps, is keeping the rotors and calipers from collecting dust and debris. Not sure.

What I do know, is that I conducted an un-scientific poll on an HHR forum, and with nearly 200 respondents, 52% of them had brake rotor problems! Gee, how about a recall, GM? Many had to go back multiple times to have it fixed, as GM put out a lame-o TSB that said the techs should turn the rotors, instead of replacing them. So, they give you a defective car, and then purposely thin-down the rotors, where you'll get that much LESS wear from them. YOU pay in the long run with that "fix". It's a fix all-right! I've got about 2k miles on these new rotors, so we'll see if they are truly adequate.

Not much to say. Brand new car and has quit a few problems from beginning. Taken in twice for the same 2 problems + 1 and right front viser clip don't hold but that is a lil thing.. My car shakes/vibrates and has a problem not starting or just dying for no reason. When my boyfriend pushes on the fuses it starts again??? The fuses under the hood in the box.

1st time they said it was a broken fuse. 2nd time (today) they re-set the computer and that doesn't include the vibration problem that they claim was excess run-out..excess run out on brand new car?? It only had 300 miles??? This time they said the tires need rotated..I don't know..
