I got the car back in august and have been driving to and from work just about everyday. Now I go about a mile to two miles and the power steering goes out. I have to pull over and turn the car off then back on drive then it goes out again. I am not sure if there is a warranty on the car but i need it to go to work.

The power steering went out, extreme effort was required to steer the vehicle.
Pulled over, shut off engine, restarted vehicle, power steering started working again.

While attempting to park car, I stopped and waited for other driver to clear parking space so I could park there. I stopped and turned on my right turn signal to let other driver know I wanted to park. My wife unbuckled her seat belt and I immediately noticed a warning message on my dash stating that my power steering had failed.
I struggled to park the car because the steering was heavy and hard. When I finished parking I turned off the ignition and then restarted the engine, the steering was ok. Several hours later we drove home with no problem. Will bring car to Chevy dealer on Monday for evaluation.

I bought a new HHR from carl Hogan with 27 miles recorded.
I decided to take a trip to Chicago, well upon entering Memphis , Tn. the power
steering failed. I rented a car to proceed. I returned the car to the dealer and it was supposed
to have been repaired. I drove the car another eleven months. The power steering failed again, the dealer
decided not to accept the car as a trade in or reimburse me for my hardships. I have purchased used cars that have produced less problems.

I first had my problem on Jan.5 and went on the internet and saw all the complaints about the steering problems. and was wondering if any one has contacted the attorney general about this. I came to the conclusion that since they are not making anymore hhr's why have a recall, even thou they did recall the cobalt and another car. so is there anyone out there ready to report them to the attorney general with me? and we can sign a petition so they can do something about this problem? I am not going to quit. I will be looking for comments from somebody, thank you.

While heading down the road the power steering panel light came on this morning. The steering wheel locked and it became nearly impossible to turn right or left. My wife was then forced to pull on the side of the road. She waited for about 10 minutes for the power steering wheel to reset. She then drove to nearest parking lot. An hour later the steering wheel was still unable to turn. Several hours later we were able to drive the car for about 2 minutes then it locked up again. While driving home it was a huge struggle as the power steering continually locked.

Yesterday morning coming home from church our 2010 HHR power steering went out. We were in the middle of a turn and THANK GOD no one was coming in the other lane. I looked on the internet to find I am not alone, 1000's of people have complained and had this same exact experience. WHY has this not been recalled, does someone have to die first? My whole family could have been injured (ME, my husband, our 17 year old son, and 2 grandbabies!
We have had this car for 4-5 months and have had nothing but PROBLEMS! I was so thrilled buying a GM, thinking I was getting a car that would be reliable, and it has been worse than any car I have EVER purchased!

While driving the vehicle the power steering would go out. I would either have to continue driving and that wasn't easy. Or i would pull over and turn off the vehicle and turn off the engine and turn it back on. Which cost time so I would have to leave early for this reason. What a Pain in the A**!!!
