Impala 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles
Our 2000 Chevrolet Impala was left in an apartment behind my children's' apartment in omaha, Nebraska. When they returned from christmas break, the battery was down and it was cold outside. They tried to jump start the car using jumper cables from another vehicle next to it. My daughter was in front of the car to remove the jumper cables after it started. When my son tried to crank the engine, it exploded all over the parking lot, showering my daughter with bits and pieces of the plastic top of the engine. My daughter was shaken up but not hospitalized and her confidence in starting GM autos is "gone." GM claims that they are not responsible because there is 120,000 miles on the vehicle at the time of the explosion and will not provide any safety advice on starting the vehicle in the future. They also contend that the children were responsible for blowing up the car by starting it with jumper cables, although the dealer acknowledges that it was started in accordance with the owners manual. There seem to be unresolved safety issues here that GM does not want to acknowledge or admit to.

I was driving down the street and my engine fell out of my 2000 Chevy Impala. My engine cradle mounts were not in good enough due to GM negligence. They wont back it up even though their pamphlets say different. Safety issue and they don't care. A lot of other complaints about the same thing. This vehicle should have been recalled along time ago.

Steering colum in my car has a clunk/vibratoin. The engine cradle was replaced and I was told that this was the problem, but later the noise returned after the 36000 warranty was over. Now dealer tells me that my extended warranty that I paid for would not cover the repair.also the car is having tranmission problems, still waiting to see if they can find the problem.... have been told that if no check engine light comes on then there is nothing wrong. I am going to leave with the dealer and have the service mgr drive, but not a lot of hope in this.

The lights on the dash board were too bright, which blinded the consumer when driving at night. Also the engine light illuminated. The consumer stated the steering system on the vehicle required high effort to turn the steering wheel when cornering, vehicle course corrections, and holding the steering wheel in one position, which caused injuries. The rear side view mirrors, block the consumer's view of the oncoming lane and felt that the sensor should be at eye level, the A/C ports on the dash blow on the operator's fingers and or shoulders and caused serious distractions, the horn is hard to find (specifically for the elderly), there was a wind noise in the back doors, a rattle in the front strut, and a rumbling noise had come from the heater blower. I have got the third steering column, third set of tires and a new cradle. The problem started at 4437 miles and has continued yet @ 37204 miles. Have been to many dealers, contacted GM and now have a better business bureau complaint filed. The dealers told me it was the tires and the tire dealers told me it was the car. In 4000 miles my tires went from 9/32" to 3/32" wear. The "klunk" in the front end is still there. The vehicle likes to "wander" down the road with vibrations felt in the steering wheel. The service manager took it on many test drives and contacted the regional manager=who said "not another dime in this car". I was escorted to the sales department and introduced to a salesman for purposes of trading the vehicle in. The offer was less than nada trade value. I have contacted GM's assistance line many times and just got the "run around" with operators documenting conversation and no one would let me talk to a "real" supervisor. All I wanted to do was ask for a fair solution to the problems that the dealers and GM know that they have. My vehicle is now out of warranty with the same problems since I bought it. Why = if GM states in their literature = they are committed to "customer satisfaction" = not responsive in a fair manner and I had to take this issue to all of these extremes"???????????" also at issue = is the fact that GM penalizes dealers (with bad customer surveys) due to the manufacturers engineering problems. What happened to telling the "truth" and "customer satisfaction" in business"???????" (tiresize: P225/60R16)
