ive had my impala for about 2 and half years. when i noticed at a stop lights when i take off it would jump in gear and jerk. it only does it when its warmed up. and only when i take off normally. if i punch it hard, or take off really softly, no problem. im just sick of this car.

I wish I had seen this website before i bought the piece of horse-sh*t car. I'll be driving onto the highway, increasing my speed so I'm keeping up with others around me, and the damn thing will chug its way to 65. I might have to literally floor the gas pedal to get any response, then it suddenly kicks in. I'm actually afraid that this car will kill me. I'll never buy another Chevy product again

this car is terrible, in the 3 yrs ive had it, ive replaced the tranny, and replaced the gaskets inside the engine on 3 occasions. upon doing research on this car, i also found it is notorious for needing a new tranny roughly every 50k miles, (and i may have noticed small warning signs starting after long periods of driving on hot days), and around 87k on average it's known for complete engine failure. gm should be sued by everyone that owns this car, they should by us all a non-gm car, or replace every dollar we've lost to in in repairs due to their rise of engineers to design planned obsolescence and funding it with cutting back their customer service! I'm 85k miles, I'm dumping this car now unless i can sell enough tickets to other angry owners of this car to use as target practice! joint venture anyone? now i found out that this car makes the top 20 for worst cars according to Autobeef! (placing in at number 8) Thanks autobeef, and i wish i would of found you sooner!

I have had the same problem with my 2000 Impala. I got this car thinking because it was a Police vehicle it would be durable and last. One day it got warm and the transmission started to slip so I figured it was from the heat and surely it was. I hope this car makes it through the summer because I have had it less than 1 year.

well ive had my impala for about a year and half now. since the last car half the engine fell out. and damn near killed me. so i decided to get a car that i would be able to drive for a while. and when it was time to buy. the impala was one good looking car,had about 90,000 but flawless, ran like new. and the price was good. plus i heard the impalas were really reliable cars. well the lie right... since the day ive bought it ive babied my car. from the paint, to the engine to even the trains. just last year my differential blew apart. when i had to accelerate hard to get in traffic. boy was i pissed. towed it home. i had the know how. so i bought the parts from the dealer and fixed it myself. and now a year later more transmission problems. slipping, shifting hard, and usually it will shift when it hits 45. not anymore. the car pretty much acts like it doesn't have that gear, and just slips the the next gear once it get up to about 53mph. engine still runs like a dream. but i cant take this anymore. soon as this peice is paid off. im getting rid of it. and u can trust i wont get another Chevy.

The transmission of my Chevy is slipping when it down shifts or upshifts when it is warm. Does anyone have any advice how to repair this. I am having the same trouble as Scott B above.

Ok... now I know that every car has its problems, but the 2000 era Impalas were machined for police forces all over the country. Tell me why in the hell is my transmission slipping when i put some ass into the pedal. I can understand wear and tear, and the car has 120,000 miles on it. But come on, I had a 1994 Chevy van at one point and with over 200,000 on it, the only thing ever needing to be replaced was the alternator and the air compressor. No techs can seem to find a problem with it, but I have a problem with it so screw what they have to say. I was thinking about buying the new model impala, but i dont want the tranny giving out on me in 6 years, as soon as i get the bitch paid off...

The car would shudder at every shift and if you stomped it from a dead stop it would shudder so violently you would think that the tranny was going to fall out . but if you babied it it was some what liveable , and when it was cold in the morning it would not do it until it warmed up

I noticed this problem within a month of purchasing it. When test driving it I never really stepped on it to see what it had..... big mistake! The first time I really stepped on it the tranny slipped! It does this horrible shudder and shake thing until it catches, but scares the crap out of you. Or it did until I realized what was happening... then I was mad. I've had it for a year and a half now, and still have not fixed it because hey, why fix it if it isn't totally broke, right? Basically I granny drive everywhere, which is not a bad thing, but I have no confidence in my vehicle. If I ever have a need to really get up and go, I'm screwed. I've had it flushed, it doesn't help, I think my only remedy is a rebuild, and I haven't bothered to quote that yet because I'm hoping to baby it long enough to get by and get something else. My fiancee can't drive it because he gives it too much gas and makes it slip just about everytime he takes off. I guess you can't expect much when you buy used, but I can't believe this tranny would be weak enough to die so soon. I'm very disappointed, I really liked this car, but it's been nothing but problems.

Ive had my car for about 2 years now and go figure as soon as i pay it off i have to replace the torque converter lock up. got it back from the shop and they tell me i need a whole new tranny. I'm pissed. i wish i would have known that these cars are crap i have 2 kids and am seriously scared it will hurt them. Should i replace the tanny or no?
