2001 Chevrolet Impala..passlock security lockout problem...one week ago, I changed the oil in my wife's Impala, and disconnected the battery connections, to clean and lube them. Car would not start again, and one week later, it still has not started. I am currently unemployed, in a very depressed area of upstate New York, and we are trying to hang on to our home, though that looks in doubt. Did not need this to happen right now, and I am absolutely furious that GM will not do anything about this widespread problem, and that they have you pay for it, when it happens to you. This passlock problem is found on all makes of GM cars. I have researched the internet, and there are thousands of people out there with this problem, yet nothing is being done. I cannot pay the $500 to $1000 to get this junk going, and if you read the forums online, you will see that if you do, the problem will come back anyway! sorry, but the term legal scam comes to mind. So, my wife and I are out of a car....too bad we still had faith in America...when is something going to be done about this? big brother wins again...this is an outrage, a shame, a downright crime...action to reimburse owners for their purchase price would be nice, because even if this car is fixed now, I no longer wish to have this lemon, which forced me to replace the brakes on all 4 wheels at 24K miles, due to bad design!!!

The traction system was activating for no reason. Service ABS light came on in vehicle. Dealer replaced left wheel hub, including sensor. Problem recurred the day after and the wrong assembly was installed, the correct assembly was installed. One month later problem recurred. Dealer claimed it was a loose connection on wheel hub assembly. Seven months later problem recurred. Dealer now says the right hub assembly needed replacing, as well as the transmission solenoid. Repairs have not been done for the latter because we want dealership to repair free of charge.

The anti-lock braking system would engage when the brake pedal was depressed at low to moderate speeds. This occurred on dry pavement and seemed to extend the length of time needed to come to a complete stop. The dealership replaced the hub and sensor. The problem recurred. The hub and sensor were adjusted. The problem recurred. The dealership had to replace the wiring harness to correct the problem. Old parts were never offered in return. The repair was not covered by warranty.

: the contact stated while turning to the left at low speeds the antilock brakes activated automatically causing the vehicle to come to a complete stop in traffic. The dealership determined the traction control device was defective and has replaced it four times, but the problem persist. The manufacturer was alerted.

The contact stated the wheel sensors stopped working, causing ABS failure. When applying the brakes there was a grinding noise and the brakes would not stop the vehicle. The dealer replaced the wheel sensors, reset the codes, replaced the right and left rear wheel bearing assembly, and resurfaced all four rotors on the vehicle. The repair seemed to have corrected the problem. In addition, while turning the steering wheel there is a clanking noise. Technical service bulletin 04-02-35-0048 dealt with the steering problem. However, this problem has not been corrected.

- I have a 2001 Impala ls 3.8L with traction control - service traction control light came on. ABS brakes would engage when making a right hand turn (loose or tight turn) and when acceleration from a stop. There was no reason for the ABS to engage when making these turns, road conditions were perfect. - I took the car to the shop and they said the speed sensor has failed due to environmental conditions (please reference NHTSA campaign id number 05V379000 for a recall on GM pickup trucks and SUV's). My car is not covered under this campaign but the problem describe in the campaign is exactly what has failed in my situation. - the shop replaced the right front hub bearing and wiring harness using hub kit 6.307 and sensor kit 4.720 -problem was fixed - I would like to know why cars are not covered under the capaign like trucks and SUV's that have the same speed sensor.

The vehicle was involved in a frontal collision of 55 - 60 mph and none of the air bags deployed. Before the impact the car fishtailed and skidded on loose pavement and the ABS/ traction control was never activated.

On 7-24-01 called the dealer to find out if I have ABS braking system on my car, they told me I did so I told them that the ABS warning light doesn't come on when you turn the ign. On like the owners manual saids. They told me that as long as the brake light comes its ok. So I complained to the chev. Customer service reps. About this and the answer I got was the system is okay, and the reason the ABS light doesn't come on is because in the begining of this model year ABS was free, and in the second half it costed $620 dollars, what are they saying"??" in the owners manual it states that ever the light comes on and the system is okay or it doesn't and to get looked at soon.
