THIS CAR HAS A WINDSHIELD THAT SOUNDS AS IF IS GOING TO CRACK AND FALL IN AT ANY MOMENT - SOUNDS AS IF IT WERE "SETTLING". IT IS VERY SCARY TO HEAR THIS SOUND EVERYDAY
NOW SINCE I PURCHASED THIS IMPALA THE DRIVER SIDE (LEFT) WINDOW HAS HAD ISSUES, AND THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A STRUGGLE TO HAVE THIS WINDOW GO UP, AND NOW IT HAS STOPPED WORKING AND THIS IS SUCH A PAIN AND AFTER SEEING THE OTHER ISSUES - THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE........ I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS CAR AND HAVE ONLY HAD IT 1.5 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-ALL I CAN SAY IS FORD PRODUCT IS MUCH BETTER BUILT VEHICLE - IF THIS IS GOING TO BE A MONEY PIT AS IT HAS BEEN THUS FAR - CHEVROLET SHOULD GO OUT OF BUSINESS, OR CREATE A BETTER CAR THAT HAS BETTER FUNCTIONALITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The window actually dropped and stopped working a few weeks prior to getting it repaired. My husband boosted the window into position with a dowel, but I couldn't open the window. He kept telling me he could fix it. I was about to leave for a short trip and took it to get repaired. My husband was not happy with me OR the car.

"The driver's window switch on my 2000 Impala (100k miles) would move window down but not up. A friend and I took apart the driver's side switch pack and found extreme charring on the silver contact under the metal rocker strip.
Using contact cleaner uncovered a nearly welded away contact. We put an extra bend in the metal rocker strip so the switch pressed it into the contact and it works fine now.
We found failure, and the most charring, in the most used switch (driver's) and almost pristine contacts in the rarely used rear window switches. Obviously, there is a design or material flaw at work here.
We concluded the rocker strip was designed or produced with an incorrect bend which caused it to just about meet the contact point, arcing with each push of the switch. (And I thought I didn't own a welder!)
One needs only a few handtools, contact cleaner, and some patience and the switch can be made good as old in an hour or two. Much more better than spending $100 or more for a new switch."

Bought my 2002 Chevy Impala new. At just over 36,000 miles had transmission replaced.. then, my AC/HT switch quit working on level 1. AC still works on levels 2-5, so I haven't had it replaced. Estimate to fix was $387.65 because they have to buy a whole new blower motor/switch. Then just a month or so later, my engine wouldn't start after I had stopped to get gas. After about 30 minutes, it started and didn't have any more problems for a while, then out of nowhere, went to the store and when I came out, car wouldn't start. Waited about 15 minutes and it started right up. Has done this several times, and I never know where or when I'm going to get stranded. No one can find the cause.
Went out to my car this morning and the window was down (went down on its own after I turned car off). Surprise, my window wouldn't roll up. Cost $140 to get a new window switch/motor. Not happy. Car only has 51,000 miles. Can't afford a new one.l

I own a 2002 Chevy Impala LS. A few months back my window power switch stop functioning properly. I though that I had figured out tricks to roll the window back up. Well it is 20 degrees F in Chicago, I drove to the drive thru at BK and my window would not roll back up!!!!! I had to drive my girl friend 10 miles to her house and then another 25 miles back home!!! On top of that, my heater controls will not start until I reach #5!! My solution to this problem, replace this part from an online buyer (just checked chevy dealers and price vary from $198-$250) and the second solution..... NEVER EVER WILL I BUY CHEVY AGAIN!!!! Love my car, 55k miles, 6 years together ... but with a lot of headaches along the way!!!!!

About a month ago the switch for the drivers window on our 02 impala started acting up. It would not work correctly like there was a short or something. Today (12/10/09) the drivers window dropped and stopped working completely. I think there may be several problems involved. My wife told me she heard a sound like something hitting the car. I think this my have been a rivet on the regulator breaking (the arms that raise the window up and down). This would explain why the windows drop. The switch in the door is probably shorting out and I think the motor may be fried.
If anyone knows a cheap place to get all the parts please let me know because I will probably be doing the work myself.

my wife went out to her car and came in saying her window would not roll up . i took it to the glass shop where they told me the regulator was bad they had to order me one at an after market price the dealer wanted 500.00 just for the part man gm really dropped the ball on this one

DEALER FIXED THIS PROBLEM LAST YEAR UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY AND NOW 5,000 MILES LATER SAME PROBLEM AND WARRANTY OVER 2 MONTHS AGO. REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE CRAP, CHEVY SHOULD RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM BUT THEY WONT. RIP OFFS. WE HAVE ALWAYS BOUGHT CHEVYS BUT I WILL NEVER AGAIN.

The day before Christmas eve my driver's side window dropped down into the door while we were driving down the road and to top it off it was raining. Needless to say because of the timing, we couldn't fix it immediately. My husband has since tried working on the problem himself thinking it was the motor; however it is not a motor problem, it is a small wire that has snapped.

This one was the 4th. I had a window motor and/or regulator go out on this car. It has happened to 3 of my 4 windows, so obviously even the motors or regulators they use to fix the issue end up failing! In this case my daughter & I went into a restaurant, came out and the passenger front window had fallen down & wouldn't go back up. Since I park outside where I work, I needed to get it fixed pretty quickly. I didn't want to leave it open all day & take a chance on the weather. I wasn't worried about anyone trying to steal it! Just worried about the chance of thunderstorms!
This wasn't even the last repair as I've had the same issue again. I will be posting a complaint for each window I had to repair, after I find all my invoices.
I have no idea why there hasn't been a recall for this issue, as it is definitely a problem! At $300 - $400 for each repair it gets quite expensive!
