if its the same as the camry, they showed a resister problem. autozone guy told me on the impala the part was attached to the blower. 1,2,3,and 4 setting doesn't work. # 5 setting blows. (HI).. others had told me a month ago oh its the switch.. you have to pull the whole dashboard. geesh. which is it? ------- i'm more prone to the fan/blower unit since its more accessible and it sounds the same as a video repair I watched for the camry with the same symptoms.
the big thing is again.. what if you go in to the dash and put out the money and time to replace the switch itself and then it turns out that its the motor unit or resistor coils?
I choose the latter, because as I have read others complaints. water did pour through the cabin filter from outside and under the hood.. their IS a straight black rubber gasket directly above that (supposedly) deflects rain from the windowshield .. I HAD TO remove, clean, and cement the gasket to the metal frame edge that it clamps on. its only about 12 inches long.. it SHOULD have been cemented/glued on from the factory, but i guess since its designed to slip on they skip that step.. the prob is as the gasket gets older , it allows water to flow past it/ under it even though it remains in the proper position. you need to open the hood, peel that gasket up.. its very easy to remove, and permatex it to the ledge it goes over. I think the hood itself compresses it once closed, since its spongy. you MAY have had water seepage as i did into the front passenger floorboard. fix that and then fix your ac heater fan blower resistor coil.. it shows in the book that its attached direct to the side of the blower motor and is 39.99 at the autozone store. -----

My air just stopped working. The mechanic said it will cost about $290 to fix. He said the motor had shorted out and needs to be replaced. Apparently there is water in it. I have spent more fixing this car than what I paid for it. Hopefully this fix will keep my blower motor going until I can afford to buy a new car.

This is annoying. A/C FAN only works on settings three or higher.

Heat just quit working one day. The controller had quit working prior to the heat going out completely. Now the car will warm up while driving, (if on defrost) but when I slow down or stop at a light the heat quits.

The blower does not work on 1 or 2. I have heard that water can get on the blower resistors?? and rust them out. They also say it is a real pain to change.

the blower resistor shorted out because a stupid piece of carbody trim gasket detached allowing water to seep through the cabin filter and into the blower, so i had to replace the gasket, filter, and the resistor. this was a lot of fun since i have human size hands trying to get to the resistor on the back of the blower under the glove box. good job Chevy next time i buy an import!

Fan Selector switch ONLY works on Highest setting (5). This stinks because fan is very LOUD when it runs on HI.

The blower control switch started working erratically and got worse and worse. It also quit sending heat into the car. Don't know if that is another problem or not.
